Judge Miller disposed of a policy case in the Police Court yesterday #fternoon, that of Ellen Wasbington, the woman who was arrested in South Washington last week. Lawyer Moss, her counsel, entered a plea of guilty in the case, and Judge Miller gave her four months in jail. ‘The judge said now that able-bodied men are hard to get into the business the poor womenand children are being pressed into the service, but they have had fair notice of what the court will doin. the cases, and if they will take the chances of getting caught they must also take the consequences. In the case of Mrs. Washington's two daugh- ters a nolle pros. was entered, James Washington, colored, charged on an old warrant with violating the ‘policy law, came in and gave bonds for his appearance. —— a Denth of a Faithful Treasury Messenger. Robert A. Davis, one of the oldest colored |! employes of the Treasury Department, died at his residence in Mount Pleavant yesterday morning. For twenty-two years he filled the position of messenger to the deputy commis sioner of internal rev@nue, and so faithfully discharged his duties that the mutations of pol- itics and the change of aMministrations still found him answering the deputy’s bell. Dur- ing the late war he served in the United States navy, from which he was honorably discharged when hostilities eaded. His kind and obliging disposition won bim the good will of all with whom he came in contact, and he was greatly liked by all the otticers and clerks of the imter- nal revenue bure: For the past few years he was a great sufferer from disease contracted w the line of duty in the uavy, but his wonderful energy GEORGETOWN. AD TROUBLE WITH THE CONDUCTOR. Acclored servant girl who has lived in one family for seven years was in Judge Miller's court today charged with an assault on Howard Batchelor, a conductor on the Tenleytown rail. Toad. Her name was given ae Susan Lee. She was on the car in charge of Conductor Batchelor, and when she motioned to him to stop’ the car she claimed that he paid no attention to her, but the car kept on toward Tenloytown. It’ was late at night, and during the discussion the woman claimed that the conductor used bad language and she admitted that she called him a “drunken scoundrel.” ‘The conductor denied that he had been drinking. Susan said that when he attempted to lead her from the car she struck him. ‘There was also a charge of disorderly conduct against Susan, and the judge suspended doth cases. NOTES.
