Cuddy, « contractor of the firm of Phillipe & Cuddy, at the Michigan state prison in this city, wae killed at that institution yesterday afternoon by « life convict named Henry Blackunan, who ts doing at His Desk time for murdering his wife and family. Mr. Cuddy was sitting at A in the bs bop writing, when Blackman crept up behind him and knocked him over the head with « hammer. No one was in the room at the time. Mr. Ouddy did not take the matter seriously, simply saying: “Oh, 1 guess not.” The broom contract of Phillips & Cuddy expired yesterday, and Mr. Cuddy was about to retire. Blackman was sentenced for life from Onkland county for killing bis wife and her sie- ter. About six months ago Contractor Cuddy reported the fractious convict for not his work.
