In case of rain ‘the festival will be postponed. peaks aa ‘THREE FUNERALS. ‘Three funerals took place here yesterday, At 1o’clock this morning the late Joseph Hopkins, who died afew days ago at Trappe, Md., was buried from the residence of his son on King street near the Peabody School building. Guy of the metropolican police force arrived here from Washington and were placed ina vault at the M. P. cemetery until pi tions for the interment are completed. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon the remains of the Inte John P. Ag- new were buried. The funeral took place from his residence on Duke and Pitt streets in thi city, and a large number of Alexandrians the last tribute of respect to the- old and es- teamed citizen. CITY TAXES TO BE PAID. The mayor is calling on business men and dog owners tocome up at once and settle for the license tax on business and the dog tax. ‘The clerk of the common council is now pre- paring the city tax bills on real and personal estate, and the bills will be in the hands of the city tax collector by the middle of this month. ‘Then a discount of 10 per cent will be allowed onall taxes paid before the ist day of July and many thousand dollars will be pald by that PUBLIC SCHOOL MATTERS. Hon. Lewis McKensie has presented another handsome American flag to the boys of Wash- ington public school, to be hoisted on the new staff recently presented to that school. The original trustees of this school were nearly all soldiers of the revolution, one of them, Col. John Fitzgerald, baving been an ide-de-camp ‘of Washington.
