The President Expected to Be at the Riding Academy This Evening. The dog show is the biggest thing in town and all day long there bas been a pushing, surg- ing crowd of dog fanciers anxious to get a peek ata collection of dogs whose aggregate worth is placed at something over a million of dollars. Yesterday was the second day of the bench show and it is safe to say the Riding Academy never saw such a distinguished crowd nor the dogs such a collection of social lights. The sec- ond day of an affair of this kind always brings outan increased attendance, for by that time the judges have completed their labors and the dogs have been duly decorated with their rib- bons of merit. There was some dissatisfaction among the exhibitors because their dogs did not get a prize, but generally the decisions of the judges proved satisfactory. THE PRESIDENT EXPECTED. It is understood that the President and Mrs. Harrison, with the other members of the fam- ily. ‘visit the show this evening, and the largest attendance of the week is looked for. The President isa great adm’ of dogs and as there isa fine collection of Chesapeake bay dogs—the duck hunter's favorite breed—it is likely that he will be found near their kennels. ‘The dog circus still proves a great i for old and young and at 4 and 8 o'clock each day the performance takes place. ‘omorrow at 4 o'clock Prof. Hampton's trained dogs will give an extra performance. One of the greatest leaping greyhounds in the world will be given an opportunity to beat the world’s record. Ana ball it wasa grand and undisputed suc- cess. It was called the second grand levee afd supper of The Cooks’ United Association, No. 1, and the name and fame of the organization were all that were needed to draw a crowd of the swells and beauties of the local colored Population. They were out in force and with their best clothes and happiest smiles. The ball was held at the G. A. R. Hall last night and the organization under whose auspices it was given is composed of the head cooks of the dif- ferent city hotels. There were carvers in plenty present, but there was no cutting except upon some luscious joints that had the place of honor on the supper table. Up on the stage was an orchestra t dallied with dance tunes in a happy, self-satisfied way that was infinitel beantifui and did not seriously interfere wi the dancing. The only dress suits in the room decorated the persons of the musicians, and most of the ladies were in demi-toilet and with’ bonnets, but the room was crowded, and when the pent- up strains of « waltz broke forth from their bondage within the fiddles the fun was quick and hively. Talk about dancing! ‘Why the building ‘fairly rocked. It was warm’and the dancers were soon moist, but nothing could stop their onslaught. For earnestness of pu: pose and for devotion to the dictates of terp- sichore the recent charity ball wasn't # marker to it, and the dancing stopped only when the music did. The ball kept up till a late hour and probably added a considerable sum to the treasury of the association. The committee of arrangements consisted of a number of men who play an important part in hotel life. They were as follows: Wm. Taylor, president; Jos. Liverpool, vice president; L.'J. Allen, secre- tary; I. 8. Ferguson, assistant secretary; 'T. H. Jobuson, chapiain; Isaac N. Butler, treasurer; John H. Hull, John W. Davis, James H. Davis, A. G. Smith, John Thomas. James C. Cross, Harrison Banks, Samuel H. Howard, Charles P. Williams, Daniel Tibbs. ee GEORGETOWN, REMOVAL TO THE NEW STATION. At 6 o'clock this evening tho police roll call will be answered in the new station and the old one will be silent and deserted. At an early hour this morning several wagons backed up to the building on the canal, and before long its dilapidated contents were loaded on and trans- Planted in the new soil. All those officers not on duty were present to assist in the removal, and all breakable things, as well as the summer helmets, were carried in their arms. The patrol Dox situate at the corner of 83d and Q streets will be removed to # point near the old station. FOUND WITH HIS HEAD CUT. Abont 7:30 o'clock last night Officer Howard found Edward Massey near the corner of 84th and T streets suffering from a wound in his head. As the injured man was greatly intoxi- cated it was @ jong time before the pence guardian could ascertain who had inflicted the Blow, but after much inquiry the guilt was fixed’ upon Wm. Sullivan and a person name Jones, alias Hughes. Sullivan was arrested and charged with assauit and battery and Jones will be diligently searched for. Massey's wound was of such a nature that he was sent to Freed- man’s Hospital to have it attended to. SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT. Tomorrow night at Curtis’ Hull the pupils of the eighth grade will give Zan entertainment, the proceeds of which will be devoted to the building up of the school library. Gilbert Walden, a highly indorsed elecutionist, will be the main attraction, while creditable assistance will be rendered by the pupils, There are many valuable books lately issued that the scholars are desirous of possessing, and for this reason the parents and friends are requested to give their assistance. NOTES. A depression in the roadway at the corner of 32d and M streets needs the attention of the paver. Harvey France and Mablon Curren were dis- orderly in the county yesterday and Officer Riley brought them to the station. Hyder Wallace, for taking the streets to bea race track, was arrested by Officer Pearce. Mr. Robert McMillan of Q strect is awaiting at his home the announcement of the result of his examination taken a few days ago at West Point. Mr. Albert Miller was reported to be in avery low condition yesterda; A Change of Name. ‘The Mt. Bethel Baptist Church has decided to change its name to the Jane L. Stanford, in recognition of the many acts of kindness per- formed by the wife of the California Senator in behalf of the colored people. The action was taken at a meeting of the congregation on Monday night and there was no opposition to the change. —————__ Ax Orrorrosrr such as is seldom offered for investment may be found in the “executrix sale” tomorrow at 4 o'clock p. m. of two vala- able tracts of land in Tennallytown, both front- ing on the Rockville road, and one also on the Belt road.
