The letter itself announces that it is written “in due seasou,” which prob- ably means that it is issued early enough to enable the party and the pre ential candidates to adjust themselves before the convention to the changed conditions, and et not so early as to destroy before it was absolutely necessary the hopes of the mul tede of Americans who will grieve over Blaine’s Retirement and fear the defeat of any other re- pablic: For several years Mr. Blaine has been the chief leader of the party to which he belongs. As in the opinion of the court no such wrong had Leen done the re- port was confirmed. That « further effort will be made to delay the final consummation of the plan, which is near to the heart of the people, was nced by the notices given by counsel for the prop- erty owners, when the opinion had been an- nounced. It 1: expected, however, that there will be little delay in the final proceedings, and there is reasonable ground for hope. that the efforts commenced over twenty-five years ago, to es tablish a park on the borders of the city, worthy of the capital, will soon be crowned with success. ——__~+=— The special hopefuiness of the colored con- Yention to assembie the last of this month at ‘Tuskegee, Alabama, is in the fact that it is to be & body, not of politicians to seck eifice, but of practical workers for the moral, social, intel- jectual and material good of the African race in the United States. ——— The Chieago Tritune strongly condemns “the favorite son” idea and as strongly advocates the renomination of President Harrison. ‘As the Tribune lives in the same state witi a fay- orite son this would seem to be a practical dem- castration of loyalty to a theory. - — .
