Mr. Case was nearly seventy years old. He came to Racine in the 40s and from « small shop tn which he built one threshing machine at a time bis factory grew until it now covers forty acres of ground. Besides this mammoth factory Mr. Case was the cont spirit’ in the plow works here. It is estimated that his fortune smounts to 25,000,000 or = more. Minister Egan has of- ficially requested the Argentine minister, Sepor Urribura, to note the presence of Chilean po- lice agents in the immediate vicinity of the American legation, as also the attempted arrest on last Saturday mght of Frank Egan, the American minister's son. A meeting of foreign ministers will shortly be held for the purpose of requesting the at- tention of the Chilean government toward the action of the municipal suthoritics in main- taming police surveillance of the American legation. Additional insult was offered the American minister on Saturday in the case of one of the refugees under his protection, who apphed for & release upon furnishing bonds to appear when wanted by the authorities. ‘This was recently crauted to another refugee in the Spanish legation. The government re- plied that the refugee must first leave the American legation, surrender himself to the Chilean authorities and eubmit to imprison- ment.
