AMUSEMENTS, AuBavon’s.—Wagner's “Lohengria” drew to Albangh’s last night the best audience of the week, and while there was much in the per- formance to praise there was also much to con- demn. Mme. Tavary gave an intelligent in- terpretation of Elsa and sang the music artisti- cally. In fact in this part Mme. Tavary was seen to excellent advantage and she carr! to her work the mal instruction she had re- ceived from Wagner during the period she sang lin Munich. M. Montariol was spirited and effective as Lohengrin and the same may be said | of Mr. Storment as Tewramuud. Mile. Tremelli sang the part of Ortrud excellently and Sig. Ricci made a dignified and impressive king. The opera was excellently staged and the orchestra did good work, but the chorus had a go-as-you-please match and completely spoiled the glorious effects which it was intended they | should produce. Tonight “Faust” will be ven, e Nattoxat.—The Kendals _ presented “The Ironmaster” at the New National last night toa large audience. The piece is of in- tense interest, but after seeing Bernhardt and Hading, to say nothing of many of our own actresses, in the part of Claire it is un- satisfactory to witness Mrs. Kendal’s conven- tionalism. “ Mr. Kendal is seen to much better sdvantage than his wife in thie play, and the natural coldness and stridency of his voice docs not seem out of place in the character of Phitipe Derbiay. The insufficiency of the sup- Porting company was even more manifest than on the previous night. Tax Axp Tautan.—The most mccessful comic written since the days of “Erminie,” as York papers said, iv Askin & “Tar and Tartar.” which will be seen e first time in Washington on Monday night at Albaugh’s Grand Opera House. ‘The production is said to be the greatest ever given & comic opera in this country. The costumes ind the scenery are gorgeous in coloring and most effective in design. The company pre- senting the opera is unquestionably a strong one, as may be seen by the following cust of characters: Muley Hassan, a sailor shipwrecked | near the coast of Morocco, Digby Bell: Farina, | a Circassian professional ‘beauty. Marion Ma- nola; Alpaca, a Tartar, formerly wife of Muley Hassan, now queen ‘of the sultan's harem, Laura Joyce Bell; Tajfeta, companion to Farina, Josephine Knapp; Aharioon, master of revels and royal purveyor of umusements, Chas, Wayne; Pajama, the court physician, Fred | Frear; Yusuf, servant of Cardamon, Chas. Meser; Lambrekin, a lady of the harem, Hilda Hoilins; Moket, Sultan of Morocco, Chas. H. Jones: Officer of the Guard, Kathel Kerr; Odel- iska, Maud Hollins; Cardamon, a Bedouin chief, Hubert Wilke. Uscre Isaac.—Next week Harris’ Bijou Theater will present the distinguished come- dian, Max Febrmann, in his recent success, “Uncle Isaac.” The play deals with a phase of human nature that is full of dramatic material, and which has, nevertheless, been almost com- pletely neglected by play writers. It is that of the Aierican Hebrew, a man of real flesh and blood, whose heart beats in response to the suffering? of his fellow man, but whose busi- ness tact is always awake to protect his inter- ests and maintain his independence. The character as presented by Mr. Fehrmann is said to be full of humor and wit without ever descending to the level of a caricature. Mr. Fehrmann is a violinist, a composer and Vocalist. The company includes a remarkat array of talents, and singing and dancing are given plentifully. The company is made up of people who had given evidence of their ability to do what was required before they were chosen. The performance should therofore possess marked artistic merit in every respect. “Tue Patnot.”—The attraction next week at Kernan’s Lyceum Theater ix “The Patrol,” by Scott Marble, who made a thorough study of the celebrated Snell murder and built up this play on a plot that absorbs as much interest the original tragedy. A. H. Simon's company is pronounced fully competent to interpret the lines intelligently, and with ample scenic and mechanical effects, and the two beautiful horses, known as “The White Patrol,” give promise of a realistic and satisfactory produc- tion. These horses come on the stage at break- neck speed. They dash to the rescue of Pol.ce Capt. Hardy, struggling with Detective Case, who in following an opposite clue of the murder of Enos Bond, and vividly illustrate the efficacy of the police ‘patrol system. ‘The play contains many exciting incidents of police life, strong situations and thrilling climaxes. In the cast are Chas. Chappelle, Virginia Nelson, Alice Fisher, Herbert U. Jones, Eddie Giguere and HF. Adams.
