The New York Herald's Valparaiso dispatches this morning say that from all appearances the danger of any serious trouble between Chile and the United States over the Baltimore out- rage is rapidly passing away. The Libertad Electoral, the semi-ofticial organ of the junta, publishes an editorial which is calculated to set at rest any fecling of uncasiness which may have prevailed in Chile. It says that for the past few days rumors have been prevalent atSantiago that an alarm- ing rupture of amicable. relations with the United States was imminent. “Wo assure the public,” it says, “that these rumors are un- founded.” Itadds that dispatches have been received from Senor Pedro Montt, Chilean minister at Washington, asserting that the ut- most cordiulity exists between lim and Seere- tary Blaine. Martyn, the founder of Mar- tyn’s College of Oratory and Elocution, died in this city yesterday. He had been ill but a short time, but complications of Bright disease and pneumonia developed and his con- stitution, which had been shattered by two attacks of apoplexy, was unable to withstand them. Mr. Martyn had amassed considerable wealth in India, where for nearly eighteen years he was engaged in mercantile pursuits and owned interests in steamships running from Calcutta to England.
