" ROCK CREEK PARK. — Judge Wilson Continues His Argument in Behalf of the Land Owners. read. This record cannot be matched by that of DONT BE HOODWINKED ‘Dy dealers who pretend that they can sell Dr. Pierce's genuine medicines at Jess than these long-established prices : Golden Medical Discovery (for Liver, Blood and Lung Diseases), $1 # bottle. Favorite Prescription (for woman's weaknesses and ailments), $1 # bottle. Comp. E Weed, 50c. Pbottle. Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy, . . wc + eo + 5 SOcents ® bottle. The genuine medicines can only be sold by druggists, at the above prices. There are more ways than one to make & profit, even at “cut prices.” Unscru- pulous dealers tamper with the bottles, or retill empty ones—and such mixtures can be sold cheaply. But every bottle Yesterday afternoon, in the Rock Creek Park condemnation proceedings, Judge Wilson, in referring to the valuation of $250 per acre which Mr. Perry bad set upon Pierce's mill i i old mill and its site were worth more than that. Speaking of the stone quarry on the Shoe- maker land, it waa now a well-known fact that, although the government's counsel had sought to show that the stone was of no value, that very stone was now being used by the govern- ment in the construction of buildings in its Zoological Park. The water power afforded by Rock creek on the Shoemaker tract was next discussed by Judge Wilson. No one pretended to deny the existence of this water power, and its value as given by witnesses for the owners rose from $90,000 to $150,000. But it also had a future value, and that, too, must be duly considere in connection with all of the many advantages to which this power could be applied. Among the many uses to which t ter power could be applied could be mentionedelectric lighting, electric railways, the manufacture of ice, the furnishing of water and many others.’ All these were elements of value, and, as such, added to the worth of the lands. ‘The only re- maining question, then, was, how much do they dt to ite worth? Superintendent Arnold of the strest-swoep- ing service said toa Stam reporter this morn- ing that the recent cool snap had » wonderful effect on the autumn leaves, which are falling faster now than he has ever known them to fall before. The contractor, he said, is paid 35 cents a thousand yards for sweeping the streets, but now, that the leaves are falling in such large quantities he does work aggregating many thousand yards for which no extra com- pensation is received. In addition to the actual sweeping, he said, ten or twelve carts are sent over the routes during the daytime, and the leaves are then collected.’ When people see that the carts are making the trips to collect the leaves they manage to get all the leaves from their yards, so that the carts carry off #0 many loads ‘more than they should. Under the rules go the service the worl# of collecting the sweepings is required to be finished by day- light, but on account of the immense piles of ves the work is seldom finished before 9 or 10 o'clock. ‘The leaves are tuken to the various dumps in the different sections of the city, and every now and then the boys in the neigh bor- hood of the dumps make a bonfire of them. There is hardly a doubt that they will play with Brooklyn next season, Von der Ahe is now in a worse predicament than he was at the time that Comiskey and the rest of his followers left him and joined the brotherhood. He has made Comiskey an offer of 26,000 for 1892, but the big captain has re- fused all overtures and none of the other men who wore brown stockings last season have signed with the St. Louis club, nor will they.
