Gillette has furnished the amusement public with many excellent phases of life humoronsly and ingeniously de- picted on the mimic stage. His “Private Sec- retary.” “Professor.” “Wilkinson's Widows” and other comedies have introduced many odd characters which have proved thoroughiy ac- ceptable and some of which bave held their lace for many years. “All the Comforts of ome” is one of Mr. Gillette's latest and most successful creations, and though its title would scarcely suggest anything of a humorous char- acter he has made a play fall of artistic satire and delicate and whol bomor — This will be presented at Albaugh’s next week and \the company that will interpret it is said to be one of the strongest that Manager Charles Frohman has ever sent out. The piece was thorough!) successful here last season and ite return be gladly welcomed. Hanris’ Bisou Teater.—Next week the patrons of Harris’ Bijou Theater will welcome that popular comedian, Joseph J. Sullivan, in the musical comedy, “Black Thorn.” The performance gives @ picture of the romantic and exciting phases of life. with an Irishman ‘as the central figure. Especial pains have been taken with the scenery. Among the more Prominent stage effects is the representation of & burning mill. The performance does not de- pend on the scenery, however, for Mr. Sulli- van’s abilities as a comedian are joined to dra- matic and specialty talents of a high order in the subordinate members of his company. Among the artists who are engaged for the pro- duction are ex-members of some of the — aoied companies that have appeared. Miss Peasiey has met with warm praise as 00- prano singer, and Mise Belle Vivian's skirt dance has been commented on asa unique and meritorious effort. Yankee Moore has made a Teputation as an impersonator of rural char- acters, while the star is known asa songster and specialty artist of the strongest cal- iber. Little Helen Martel is regarded by those who have seen her as one of the cutest and cleverest of children. Kersan’s Lyceum Sneater.—On Monday, ‘Tuesday afternoon and night and Wednesday, at Kernan’s Lyceum Theater next week, Joe J. Dowling and Sadie Hasson, supported by a good dramatic company, will present their in- teresting drama, “lhe Red Spider,” which is replete with exciting scenes of the wild west and enlivened with original specialties, including new songs anddances. Mr. Dowling will appear as Dakola, a strange cheracter of the western wilds. Miss Hasson will sustain the role of Beatrice Murtha, or Rosay, a lively little moan- tain landlady. This play will be followed by “Nobody's Claim,” «beautiful picture of the west in nve acts, introducing Mr. Dowling in his favorite character, Ward Devereauz, and Miss Hasson in her happiest creation, Madge, a mountain waif. Many realistic scenes are pre- sented in this drama, including the snow scene and the fire scene, and together {ith entertain- ing ‘ialties, make the play highly interest- ing. carl the thoroughbred Kentucky colt, appear in both plays. Gxoucrrows AvaTeur OncuesTea. — An encouraging number of subscriptions for the twelfth season of the Georgetown Amateur Orchestra has almeady been received, and careful rehearsals are now in progress, under the efticient leadership of Prof Jovef Kaspar, who is contident of even better musical results than heretofore. Among the attractions for the first concert is Miss Clementine De Vere, a worthy successor of Gerster, whose flute-like notes are recalled by Miss De Vere’s flexible voice and remarkable execution. She has met with the most flattering success in New York and Boston, some of the critics being so en- thusiastic a to style her a second Jenny Lind. Prof. Anton Gloetzner will perform Henselt’s difficult piano concerto, and the orchestra, strengthened by the Wilhelmj Club, will num- ber eighty musicians. The principal numbers on the program will be as follows: Overture, Phedre, net; piano concerto in F minor, op. 16, Henselt, Mr. Anton Gloetzuer: Nor- wegian rhapsodie No. $, Svendsen; Intermezzo Cavalleria Kusticana, Mascagni; Dream After the Ball, Czibuika; Wilhelmj Club and orches- tra (string orchestra, eighty performers). ‘The growing favor with which the orchestra has been received from year to year, the improved character of the concerts of each season and the earnest efforts of the management to foster musical life in thie city appeal strongly to all lovers of music for generous patronage. peribecnasctcrailn INFORMATION FOR VOTERS. Yesterday after Mr. Perry had concluded his argument before the Rock Creek Park com- mission on behalf of the government he was followed by Mr. Samuel Maddox, who replied to the strictures of Mr. Perry upon the ques- tion of the Rosemont Park subdivision. What- ever could be said, the fact that this tract could be subdivided and lots in it sold and resold established a market value, and the commis- sion were compelled to take notice of such fact, even thongh the value was reached be- caute of the creating of the proposed Rock Creek Park. Mr. Maddox was ‘ollowed by Messrs. McKenney, Lambert, Lee and Hagner in brief replies to Mr. Perry. The commission then adjourned to Monday morning, when Mr. Coleman will make his argument.
