There’s “value received,” or there's no pay. The manufacturers take all the risk by selling them on trial! As no other medicines are sold, through druggists, on such liberal and trying terms—ifs an insult to your intelligence for any dealer to attempt to substitute other medicines for these, by recommending them to be “just as good,” only that he may make a lafrer profit. :CITY AND DISTRICT. . & The special value of Tz Evextxo Stan to advertisers is the fact that it is not thrown away after once being rexd, but passes through halfa dozen pairs of hands at least before } being tossed aside. OTHER GAMES. The Athletics had a picnic with the Orioles, taking the game by the score of 16 to 4, and with it third place in the championship race. The batteries were Chamberlain und Milligan and McMahon and Robinson. Athletics made nine- teen hits and one error and the Baltimores eleven hits and seven errors. Anson and his colts returned home to Chi- 0 Wedues: ight and yesterday began their last series of games for this season, Cin- cinnati being their opponents. A good sized crowd turned out hoping tc see the home team win a game and thus keey within bailing dis- tance of Boston. ‘They were doomed to disap- pointment, however, as Mullane was toc much Of puzzle for them to solve. Only two hits were made off the Cincinnati pitcher. Hutch- ison was touched up often and in bunches. Both teams played well in the field. BOSTON CLINCHES IT# LEAD. Flushed with victory, full ot confidence and as kittenish as Anson himselt when he has a good lead the Eoston team made their appear- ance at Philadelphia yesterday afternoon. They played a game full of life. ‘They did not hit the ball with great frequency, but every bit counted. Every chance was accepted and every weakness of their opponents was taken advan- tage of. By winning vesterday’s game the Bos- tons secure a sure lead for the pennant, Cinein- hati’s victory over the Chicago team knocking the latter out of it. The game was called at the end of the seventh inning owing to dark- ness. Foutz pitched for Brooklyn yesterday and kept the New York hits well scattered. The giants, however, helped _ the visitors to win by glaring errors. John Ewing pitched a good game. a When yesterday's game at Cleveland seemed lost beyond doubt the home team struck a Streak of terrific batting in the cighth, con- tinued it through that and the Jast inning, win- ning hands down. In an interview with a reporter yesterday John B. Day, president of the N@w York Buse Ball Club, said, in response to a query about the Bostou-New York gumes, of which there has been so much talk of late: "bere is no truth in the story whatever. Anson himself admits it. The Bostons simply outplayed us, and though Iam worry to have the New York club used asa stepping stone, I would rather see the Bostons win the pennant than the Chicagoes. There was nothing the matter with Ruste in Boston, and the renson he did not pitch was that he had earned his salary for the season already.” President Hart of the Chicago Base Ball Club {isterday received @ dispatch from President ‘oung stating that he asked President Soden of the Boston club to forward evidence as to the four double protested games. The case is now am the bands of the league and if necessa-y a meeting of the directors will be called to take action Upon the matter. aioe HARVEY WATTERSON DEAD. The telegraphic report in last evening's Stam of the Irish National League convention at Chi- cago covered the proceedings up to the noon recess. Whon the convention reassembled 600 delegates, in round numbers, were announced to be duly accredited to the convention andthe 300 or 400 prosent on reassembling at onco started in to make things lively. Moriarty of Nebraska set the bail rolling with « motion to substitute M. V. Gannon as permanent chair- man, instead of Temporary Chairman Ryan, whose continuance seemed imminent. A vote showed, however, that Chairman Ryan had captured the convention with the sentimonts he bad bag ope and, to make matters more binding, Gannon withdrew from the contest, Landon of New York now unwittingly threw © fresh bone of contention among the dele. gates. Ho moved that the chair appoint com- mittecs of nine each on resolutions, finance, rules and order of business and constitution, McGuirk of lowa was the first of ries of amendment makers. He, in stentorian tones fram the platform, demanded that the com- mittees each contain # representative from every state. Sharon of Tows warmly supported the pro- posed change, declaring that while the commit- tee might, perhaps, be as properly made up Ly the officers of the convention, they were there to secure the expression of the delegatesasa whole, and the method must not only bo right, but b . above suspicion. The committees should, he | urged, represent the convention beyond all | peradventnre. Upon that question, he warmly stated, might hinge the continued existence of their organization. With much discussion and an extraordinary parliamentary tangle the struggle ended in acquiescence of the convention by » good ma- jority in the plan of having complete recog- nition of all the states in the make-up of the committees, and a recess was taken to afford the various delegations opportunity to welect their me The committee on resolutions was the one in EDUCATIONAL.
