The Skeleton Outing Club has just returned from a most enjoyable trip to the lower Po- tomac, where they camped for two weeks at Riverside. From the time of departure to the breaking of camp it was voted a complete suc- cess. The peuple at Riverside gave them a ‘m welcome, they having made on their mp lat summer miany warm friends, promi- nent among whom might be mentioned the mosquito and jigger families, who vied with each other in keeping time from hanging beavy on hand. Capt. Dowes, upon whose estate camp was established, viewed with imperturba- Ule good humor the rupid dixappearance of timber and fruit, and invariably signaled the approach of day by his appearance with a pitcher of foaming milk. Tomatoes, cabbage, peaches, &c., were to be had for the asking, and af one didn't ask for them they were brought to camp anyway. 5 Much of the pleasure of the stay was owing to the efforts of Mr. Posey, who spared no pains to make the fishing department a suc- cess, and with his broth of a boy was a feature of the camp. ‘To Mr. Posey wus traced the rumor prevalent among the colored people that the sole aim and object of the expedition of the Skeletou Outing Club was the collection of bodies for the purpose of boiling them and taking the bones back to Washington. In con- Sequence of this not a negro could be per- suaded to approach camp, many preferring a detour of ten miles through the swamp to pass- ing the tent of the Skeleton Outing Club. pales Death of Mr. Barker.
