Thursday morning, May 14, 1891, five homing pigeons, owned by Messrs. Stockman, Hile and Wallace of the Alpha Homing Club, were coun- termarked by Race Secretary Frank Reamer of the Washing Federation and shipped to W. C. Cole, postmaster at Lawrenceville, Ga., to com- pete in a race against time. The birds were Liberated by Mr. Cole, who telegraphed: “Birds liberated st 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 1891; weather clear.” ‘The first bird to enter the home loft was P. P. G. 147 to Hile’s loft at 757 am. May 18, cover- ing the distance in 16 hours and 44 minutes. ‘The second was X17,304 White Face to Wallace loft at 9:47 a.m. May 18.
