All the Favorites Lost at the Benning ‘Track Yesterday. Five races were run at Benning yesterday, with good results to the bookmakers, as the favorites had a decidedly off day. The attend- ance was slightly less than on the firstday, and the Indies seemed to have lost some interest. ‘THE FIRST RACE. In the first event for half a mile Forrest, rid- den by Taylor, won without being headed, in 80 seconds, with Beverwick (Ray) and Op- pressor (Littlefield) in the places. Beverwick was close second. Warpan, Equator, King- dom, Black Hussar, Our Own and Theirs did not get places. This race was for two- year-old colts carrying 110 pounds, and $800 Went to winner and $100 more to the placers. Mutuals paid $81.35, $11.95 and €5. SECOND RACE. : The second race was for maidens of years and over, with the same stakes. There were nineteen starters, and the race was won by a rank outsider, Annapolis by name, in {for the six furlongs. The winner was four lengths to the bad on the stretch, but made s wonderful spurt. Hypatica and Fergus were in place. The mutuals paid §7.60, $3.95 and $3.15 on this event. THE WILLARD HOTEL HANDICAP. The third race was the Willard Hotel handi- cap, Col. 0. G. L. I. C. Some time ago the members of the Washing- ton Light Infantry corps decided that a gymna- sium would be a desirable acquisition to their armory. A committee was appointed with anthority to act. That committee was composed of the following named: Capt. Allison Nailor, president; Dr. Hamilton E. Leech, vice presi- dent; John A. Heydler, secretary ond treasurer Capt. Charles C. M. Loefiier, director; P. J. Haltigan, P. Schneider and John E. Payne.
