Some Swindler Collecting Money in the Boy’ Behalf. + Getting money under false pretenses is bad enough at any time, but it is worse than bad when it is taking advantage of a poor woman lying in in the hospital. Within the past week aman about thirty years old has been intoa number of the leading business places along the avenue asking subscriptions for the boy Frank Godden, the son of Mrs. Farrell, who was so dreadfully cut by ber drunken husband a couple of weeks ago. ‘The man, who is described as rather slight in build, with dark hair and mus- tache, and plainly dressed, asked for help for the’boy and told a glib story about his relation to him. In several cases money was given. Later on the man returned toseveral of the same stores and said that the boy had died as the re- sult of his injuries and asked for subscriptions to help pay the funeral expenses. This would all be very nice and charitable were it not for the fact that the boy is not only alive, but has recovered from the injaries and the fright that he received ia his encounter with his s father. He has not received acent from man who has been busily collecting for him, #0 he told a Stax reporter this afternoon. Frank Godson haa been given « position that brings i mu.
