ee 2 THAT WITHPRAWAL STORY. Emphatically Denied by Mr. Cleveland—The Story Started by the Silver Lobby. ‘From the New York Herald. I ealled on ex-President Grover Cleveland yesterday and showed him an article published in the Washington Post, which stated most em- phatically and purported to be given on the best authority that Mr. Cleveland would not suffer his name to be used as a candidate in the next presidential campaign and thet he was about to write a letter to that effect. ‘The dispatch said further that a caucus of his frieuds bad been held with a view to uniting upon some other democrat for 1892, as all persuasion had failed with Mr. Cleveland. When I showed Sthis to the distinguished leader of his party he thought it of so little fm- portance that he at first declined to be inter- Viewed on the matter. I pointed out that the | article would be co; over the country, and Mr. Cleveland consented to reply to ™Y dived bin i he intended to write the letter referred to.
