THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON, D.C, TUESDA FEBRUARY 10, 1891. CAPITOL GLEANINGS. Report on the Alcoholic Liquor Traffic— Other Measeres Considered. Representative J. D. remorse day reported to the House from the committee on alcoholic liquor traffic a bill to prohibit the importation, exportation and interstate | ‘transportation in violation of the local laws of | alcoholic beverages. The report accompany- ing the bill says that seven entire states, the major part of several other states and many places in most of the remaining states have prohibited the trafic in alcoholic liquors as a beverage. This fact, says the report, together with the large favorable vote in constitutional amendment contests where prohibition did not carry, and other “signs of the times,” clearly show that commerce in aleohotic liquors asa beverage, the use of which experience bas | proven isso destructive of stag peli health, | w: ie ‘the public safety and the public morals, will net much longer be tolerated by # majority, the raling power of this republic. Mr. Tarlor also reported Pfavorably from the same committee a 2 seastation peoauing the facture, importation, e%} portation and anle of all alcobs io, qaore Deverage in the United States and in every = subject to its jarisdiction. The evil, the committee thinks, is a “confluent eruption,” of the national system ond | WW cannot be Cored while in any partof the system the evil is humored.
