Many a child will tomorrow be made happy by the generous charity of the members of | usual, will give its annual entertainment at 1 club this year will entertain 600 children, to whom tickets have been given by the police. Each ticket will entitle one child to admis- sion to the hall and to @ present from the Christmas tree, and the tickets will be retained until the presents are delivered, as in this way it is hoped to provide for every one. The club has gained the idea that the least satisfactory portion of the entertainment to | the recipients in the pest has been the heavy | dinner set out. ‘This year there will be plenty to eat, but of a lighter character than formerly, and the differcnce will be devoted to providing more elaborate presents and a better enter- mut. rt of the program will include a Punch ja y show, a Christmas tree, a real live Santa Claus and other features besides to amuse | the children. |The subscriptions this year have been received by Miss Strong. 1411 H. street, while | Mrs. Macfarland has entire charge of the | toys and presents. | Mrs, Jeremiah Wilson is chairman of the ladies’ committee this year, while Miss Fanny uller, the daughter of the chief justice, has been elected president of the children’s club | and Miss Kitty Reed, ‘daughter of, Speaker Keed, vice president. Ata meeting of the board of management of the agricultural society held here yesterday the new one-third-mile track on the fair grounds recently surveyed and staked off by Mr. Frank C. Hutton was adopted by the board. ‘The lay- ing out of the new track will necessitate a re- arrangement of some of the buildings, cattle pens, de., and will cause a decided improve- ment in the appearance of the grounds. ‘The inauguration of the new track at the next ex- hibition will, it is thought, have the effect of increasing the number and character of horses brought here for exhibition both in the trotting and running classes. : A PAINFUL ACCIDENT. ‘Miss Mary Brooke, daughter of Mr. William 8. Brooke, residing a short distance from Wash- ington Grove, met with a painful accident Monday evening. While passing through the kitchen she accidentally fell against a cook stove, overturning it aud receiving upon her person the contents of a large boiler of hot water. Bhe was terribly scalded about the head "From reports which have reached here from ‘America it would appear that the methods used | there are somewhat different from those em- Daring | ployed here. A description of the Koch syringe hhas already been given and need not be re- peated. It will surprise some, perhaps, to learn that this instrument is not universally used even here, and that some prefer the ordinary hypodermic syringe, which has, of course, been made aseptic. - One reason for this is that the measuring of the quantities is easier of regula- lation and more accurate. “From the original Koch's lymph a small quantity (one cubic centimeter) is diluted ten imes with a haif per cent solution of carbolic acid. This marked accordingly as # ten per cent solution—is what may be called the ‘stack™ solution from which the ultimate preparation for the injection is made. is done by diluting the stock solution again ten times, i.e., one cubic centimeter stock solution and nine cubic centimeters of solution of half per cent of carbolic acid. This, then, is the one per cent solution which is injected. Of this a deci- gram of the Koch syringe will correspond with ne milligrcm of the original Irmph, two, deci. ma equaling two milligrams, ke. ‘This one cent solution will keep from eight to ten poy after which it loses its efficacy. This be- ing the case it is always advisable that it should not be made in larger quantities than will be consumed in that period. “The rule here regarding the time and fre- quency of the inoculations is governed by the following circumstances: If afte Arrival of the Envoys in Parie—Mr. Parnell on His Way There. Messrs. O'Brien and Gill, the Irish delegates who left New York on the steamer Obdam. ar- rived at Boulogne yesterday morning. The two envoys were met at the landing place by Messrs. McCarthy and Sullivan. They said they were overjoyed at the result of the recent elections held in North Kilkenny. A tug, hav- ing on board Messrs. McCarthy, Sexton and Condon, Father Humphreys and M. Raffa- lovitch and his wife, the parents of Mrs. Will- iam O'Brien, met the Obdam outside the har- bor. The party gave Messrs. O'Brien and Gill © most enthusiastic welcome. During the re- turn trip of the-tug to the steamship pier Mr. O’Brien held an animated conversation with his political friends. THE ENVOYS IX PARIS. Mr. Byrne, editor of the Dublin Freeman's Journal, bad an interview at Boulogne with Mr. O'Brien lasting two hours. Mr. Byrne re- ported his position as a Parncllite and en- eavored to prepare a way for the holding of conference of the leaders of the two sections of the Irish party in Paris. Mr. O'Brien and Mr. Gill arrived in Paris at falovitch, in the Avenue Journ in that city. PARNELL ON THE RESULT. almost ‘The conduct of the priests almost Highest of all in Leavening Power—U. S.
