There was from the first an almost complete paralysis of both motion and sensation. He noticed no differetice before and after the operation. At the time of the operation they saw that the duramater or covering of the spinal cord was lacerated. At the autopsy the cord when removed appeared to have under- gone a softening. ‘The witness said he did not think there was any tepticemia. He did not think the pus from the bed sores was of a character to pro- duce septicemia. He saw no symptoms of blood poisoning. Both the gunshot wound and the incision had healed at the time of death.
