The pastor of that church is a good deal of a vocalist, and nothing j pleases his congregation more than bis ex- cellent renditions of gospel hymns. ‘Ihere was a meeting in that church one evening last week, and everything was moving along very | Pleasantly when the pastor said: “Now, we are goig to take up @ collection, and if the amount donated is satisfactorily large I will sing for you—sing anything you ask for.” ‘The congregation then shelled out its con- tribution. It must havo been ‘satisfactorily large,” for the pastor stepped to the front and said: “I'll sing now. What shall it be? Ex- Press your preferences?” “Aunie Koouey,” said somebody in one of the rear seats, and the preacher's wrath was momeutarily shronded in a burst of laughter. | “Dil ‘Annie Rooney’ you,” shouted the of- - '¥ | fended shepherd, but the Joker had departed ou | with sensible alacrity. He Noah Burke said: *1 am not guilty, because I work every day,” when arraigned before Judge Miller today on a charge of vagrancy. Dr. Hamlin of Covenant Presbyterian Church made the opening prayer and Frank L. Smith, the evangelist, saug a solo entitied “Mother's Way,” which was very affecting. A brief address by the evanzelist aud numerous testimonies by different men in the audience to the power of the Christian religion in its helpiuincss had the effect of influencing a larze number to stand up and thus indicate their purpose to live new iives of trust in Lord Jesus Christ.
