His intrusion was resented and he was forcibly ejected from the premises. Later in the evening Antonio re- turned and engaged in a quarrel with the bride- groom and pinnged jetto into the latter's side, killing him instantly. Tacoma, Wasu., Nov. 4.—In the federal court yesterday Judge Hanford rendered a decision _ in the case of the Catholic bishop of Nesquaily, Wash., against Gen. John Gibbon, T. M. Ander- son. R. T. Grateman and the United States. The suit is one in which the bishop sought to obtain a title in trust for his church to 130 acres of land now in the possession of the United States as a military reservation, The suit was based upon the act of Congress en- abling the organization of the state of Oregon, am which “ail lands in possession of religious societies as missionary posts to Indian tribes” were granted to those societies. ‘he case was decided against the bishop and an appeal to the United States Supreme Court allowed. Judge Hanford cited a recent de- cision in which it was held that the govern- ment could not be compelled by its courts to issue a patent to a claimant. Troubles of the Illinois Miners.
