The people in the city who will not pay their debts are going to have something of a hustle in the future, at any rate to get further credit. An association of merchants has been formed for mutual protection against bad debts. Debtors to members of the association are to be given every opportunity tosettle their obligations and if they fail to respond their names aro to be put on record as a per- son unworthy of credit, the record to be tur- nished to the different members of the associ- ation, On the list of members of the new organization are already a large num- ber of prominent business men. At the head of the union is Mr. J. B. Brown, the well-known feed dealer. The legal end of the association will be watched by Mr. Samuel Maddox. Busi- ness men in Wasbington say that the losses here each year through bad debts amount to over #300,000, and claim that any association which minimizes this amount will cheapen goods, as merchants can afford to sell cheaper if they are assured of payment. The new organization is tobe known as the Merchants’ Mutual Pro- tective Union. ——___ CRIMINAL COURT Arraignments—Pleas of Policy Case: In the Criminal Court, Chief Justice Bing- ham, this morning Wm.
