THE KIGHT-HOUR CLAIMA, On motion of Mr. Blair the Senate proceeded to the consideration of the House bill for the adjustment of accounts of laborers, workmen and the mechanics arising under the eight- hour law, HOUSE, Mr. McKinley (Ohio) asked that the reading of the journal be dispensed with in ordee that more time might be accorded to the debate on the tariff conference report, but Mr. Turner (Ga.) objected, ‘The journal having been approved Mr. Me- Millin (Tenn.) withdrew his demand for the reading of the report in view of the fact that the report printed in the Record, Mr. McKinley ssid that it was understood that the republican members desired no more than one hour for debate.
