Beale arrived in the city this week from their summer home by the sea at Manchester, and are again establisifed in the family residence on Lafayette square. Capt. and Mrs. W. Ross Browne have re- turned from Vineyard Haven and are at their home, No. 1505 Caroline place. Mrs. 8. J. Radcliffe and the Misses Radcliffe of K street are back in their city home from Prince William county, Va., where they spent a merry summer. Mr. and Mrs. Seaton Perry and Mrs. Webb of K street are back from their summer journey- ings, which they took together. They found Narragansett exceedingly gay and altogether captivating; Saratoga impressed them with its fascinations; Lenox they found wrapped im the ound quiet of the ante-autumnal days, but fall of promise for frolics to be ushered in when the yellow leaves begin to strew the ground. Mr. Clarence Beali and his friend, Dr. Chase, are back from Atlantic City,where they spent all of August. This populous resort had its usual superabundance of admirers and de- Yotees this season. Judge and Mra, Arthur MacArthur spent the season at Saratoga. Dr. and Mra. Peck are spending the fall sea- son at Washington Grove. Mrs. Scott and the Misses Scott of De Sales street were at Vineyard Haven, Mass., through the vacation season. Mrs. Hutchinson and her daughter, Mrs. Ball, are at their country place in Maryland for the autumn. Ex-Secretary and Mrs. McCullough and Miss Mary McCullough are on their farm. 10 mil north of the city, and make weekly trips to their house on McPherson square. Col. and Mrs. Chas. P. Lincoln left last evening for a trip down the Potomac. They will visit Fortress Monroe and Virginia Beach, spending the Sabbath at the latter place. Miss Edith Larcombe and Master Frank Lar- combe have returned from an extended trip through New Jersey. Miss Minnie Stockmann and Miss Mamie Myers have returned to the city after a pleas- ant visit near Fredericksburg. Mrs. M. J. Foote and her daughter, Miss Katharine, sailfor Paris October 5 on La Champagne. Miss Nellie Friebus of 1439 U street, who has been visiting in Michigan for the past two months, will return home Thursday, accom- mied by her cousin, Miss Susie Van Tyne of ‘ecumseh, Mich. Mrs. A. P. Steward, Miss Eva and Master Jobn Steward, who have been summering at Atlantic Highlands, have returned to the city. Mrs. P. V. DeGraw and her son Edwin have left Atlantic Highlands for Cresson, Pa.. where they will spend September with Mr. DeGraw, who is there in a business capacity. Mr. Jas. R. Keenan, accompanied by his bride (nee Miss Maude Louise Swett), of Mon- treal, has returned to the city and taken apart- ments at the Shoreham. Mrs. B. Hornbach and her two daughters, ‘Miss Lena and Barbara, who have been spend- ing the summer at White Sulphur Springs, have returned home. Mrs. John Hadley Doyle and sister, Miss Collins, have returned from Atlantic City, where they passed the month of August. Mrs. James F. Barbour has been very ill at her residence, 1741 Rhode Island avenue, but is now much better. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Belt are now in Rockville for a few weeks, after spending the summer traveling through the Adirondacks and at Saratoga. Mrs. S. A. Taylor and son, Charles, have re- turned from northern Ohio. Miss Allison Wilson will leave tonight for Pennsylvania for a two months’ stay. Mrs. H. C. Burch, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Ada C. Burch, arrived home last Saturday evening after a stay of two months in the mountains of Virginia. They were joined on Sunday by Mr. Will Burch on his return from Boston after a visit to the beautiful home of Mrs. Dean Southworth at “Brain Tree.” Mrs. John Farley has returned from Ashe- ville, where she has been visiting rela- tives, spend a few days at her home, 1847 H_street, before going to visit her son, Col. J. P. Farley, at Governor's Island. Miss Elizabeth V. Brown has returned from the White Mountains, where she has been spending the summer. There is much activity at this time in Good ‘Templar circles and the meetings attract an unusual attendance. Monday evening Wash- ington Lodge could accommodate no more than gathered in its spacious hall on 14th street. ‘The same evening Friendship Lodge opened its doors to its host of friends, which filled Mil- ford Hall, corner Sth and I streets northeast, and entertained them ina hospitable manuer. D. P. Holloway Lodge held a business session of more thi ‘dinary interest, which was well attended. The meeting last evening of Monu- mental Lodge was oue of great pleasure to the unusually large number of members present and the many visitors from other lodges. Secretary Howard Perry today sent out a cir- cular to the various athletic clubs comprising the Amateur Athletic Union announcing the program of events to be contested at the third annual championship meet of the union, to be held on Analostan Island Saturday, October 11. The circular is as follows: The games will commence at 1 p.m. The fol- lowing events will be contested: First, 100-yard run; second, 220-yard run; third; 440-yard run; fourth, 880-yard run; fifth, one-mile run; sixth, five-mile ran; seventh, one-mile walk; eighth, three-mile walk; ninth, two-mile bicycle; tenth, pole vault for height; eleven, running high ‘jump; twelve,running broad jump; thirteen, throwin 16-pound hammer; fourteen, throwing 56-poun: weight for distance; fifteen, putting 16-pound shot; sixteen, 120-yard hur je, ten flights, 3 feet 6 inches high; seventeen, 220-yard hur- dle, ten flights, 2 feet 6 inches high; eighteen, individual tug of war, unlimited weight; nine- teen. tug of war, four men, unlimited weight. The Fall Games of the Columbia Club Will Doubtless Attract a Crowd. ‘With bright skies and a dry turf there will undoubtedly be a large attendance at the fall games of the Columbia Club tomorrow after- noon on Anslostan Island, and it is expected that a good many ladies will be present. The events are of the most interesting character, and care will be taken that the competitors shall comform to certain recognized standards of dress, so that no fears need be entertained as to any inadequacy of costumes. The Body of the Me Man Who Died at Emergency Hospital Not Yet Identified. The body of the unknown man who died in the Emergency Hospital last Sunday from the effects of a hemorrhage of the lungs, as pub- lished in Monday's Sax, is still at the morgue and will be held there two or three more days for identification, As heretofore published, the man was found in the park in front of Harris’ Bijou Theater, near Pennsylvania avenue and 9th street. The first precinct patrol wagon was sent for and it made remarkably good time in conveying the dying man to the hospital, but he died soon after reaching that institution. His effects amounted to but little, he having ouly 17 cents in his pockets, Taken from his pocket was a blood-stained linen handkerchief, See Coroner Patterson had washed and sent lice headquarters.
