Favguisr Scirnur Sprrxos, Va., Sept & The tournament and bell given Tuesday Practically ended tke gay season here, As snticipated the tournament was a great suc- cess, twenty knights entering the lists, and the competition was so close that the riding was kept up during several hours. At last the in- terest rested upon two who had tilt after tilt for the first place, which was finally won by the victor in the last tournament, young Ashby, @ boy of fourteen, in whom all ex-confederates will be interested as the great nephew of the noted cavalry leader, Gen. L. Turner Ashby. The little fellow’s riding was superb, and when it is remembered this is the home of the famous Black Horse Cavalry of the late —— Fer Bi itors were men witesonnd ‘thelr fothet Garing and ckill in horsemanship, the boy’s success was really re- markable, and cheer after cheer greeted the announcement of it There were no prizes, the competition being simply for the honor of crowning the queen, and this young Ashby modestly resigned, reset for himself only the privilege of selecting the third maid of honor. Marie Hollyday. Society in Baltimore is much interested in the elopement and marriage in this city by the Rev. Dr. J. H. Dashiell of the Methodist Epis- copal Church, on Friday evening last, at 1709 15th = street northwest, of Will- iam O'Sullivan Dimpfel, the ex-husband of Minnie Mille, the society actress, who made her first appearance on the stage in Duncan B. Harrison's company playing “The Paymaster,” with Mrs. Marie P. Hollyday, @ dashing widow of Harford county, Md. Mr. and Mrs, Dimpfel had been seperated for some time, but until the publication of the marriage notice yester- day the divorce had been a secret of which so- ciety had been left in ignorance. Mrs. Holly- day is the daughter of William P. Trimble, who belongs to one of the oldest and most aristo- cratic families in the state. Since the death of her husband, about two years ago, Mrs. Holly- day has been living at the parental homestead at Edgerton, about twenty miles from Balti- more, on the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore railroad. Her husband disappeared suddenly and a fewdays afterward his dead body was washed ashore in the harbor. It was never found out whether it was an accidental death or a suicide. The acquaintance between Mr. Dimpfel and Mrs, Hollyday prior to the elopement was only of one week's standing. They had met at the house of an elocutionist and became mutually enamored of each other. When Mr. Trimble heard of the state of affairs he declared that he would shoot Dimpfel if he appeared on his place. The arrangements for 6 elopement were then —_s made and the pair slip off to this city, where they were married Friday. They went back to Baltimore Saturday and took the boat for Mr. Dimpfel’s farm on the Eastern Shore, —_——. ——ass O CARDINAL TASCHEREAU ANGRY.
