The last concert of the series given by the Georgetown Amateur Orchestra took place on Friday evening in Lincoln Music Hall, under the direction of Mr. E. Szemelenyi. The pro- gram wes as ambitious as any that the orchestra has presented this year, and it was hardly to be expected that such a composition as Beethoven's “Egmont” overture should be given a performance of really musical significance. But the ama- teurs, nevertheless, did much that reflected credit upon their zeal and the earnest efforts of their conductor. The most noteworthy mumber of the program was, perhaps, the playing of the first movement of Beethoven's C minor concerto by Miss Lotta Mills. who thus made her debut in this city asa pianist. ‘was performance delightful in the rare clearness and perfection of the young lady's technique as well as in the exquisite taste and purity of her artistic sense. Never was liberal applause Letter deserved than was that which greeted her performance. The Strauss-Gilmore Concert. Yesterday afternoon Gilmore’s Band at Al- baugh’s drew a fair audience and delighted it, aud in the evening the combined Strauss Or- chestra and Gilmore's Band filled the house to overflowing. The two great organizations filled the stage and they were received with en- thusiasm by the audience, which, by the way, contained many persons well known in politi- cal, business and social circles. It was, in fact, an unusual Sunday night audience for Wash- ington. Encores for both bodies were numer- ous, with @ preponderance in favor of the Aus- trians, the waltz music catching the youthful element of the assemblage. The concert closed with the Austrian hymn by Gilmore, the Viennese all rising, tollowed by Hail Columbia, when the Gilmore Band rose, but the audience did not, which an Austrian audience would have done in recognition of ite Bational air.
