High Comedy and a Dance for the Benefit of the Library. The entertainment by High School pupils at National Rifles’ Hall last evening for the benefit of the school library was a decided success. Six scenes from “The School for Scandal” were Presented im a manner that reflected great credit upon the amateur performers. The parts of Sir Peter and Lady Teaale were quite well presented by Mr. T. E. Grafton and Miss Macartney, while Miss Tayler as Meric, Miss Stetson as Mrs, Cmdour, Miss Stidham as Mrs. Sneeritell, Mr. Clark as Sur Oliver, Mr. Biack a3 Kowley and Joseph and Mr. Ross as Charles Sur- face were very fair, The other parts were taken by Misses arbour, Banks and Thompson and Messrs. He was treated at the Emergency Hospital ard sent to his home, 1668 Valley street nort t. wir kal Be Strawberries. ‘There has been an abundant supply of straw- berries this spring and good quality berries sold cheaper than was ever known before. Two weeks ago the Norfolk berries arrived. They were much earlier than usual, Yester- day there were several crates of berries in market that were grown only a few miles from here in Virginia, and they brought much better prices than those received from a distance. A Series of Boxing Matches. The sparring matches at Kernan’s this week are attracting much attention from the lovers of that kind of science. The set-tos are given during the progress of the dramatic pertorm- ance, A number of well-known pugilists ap- pear. Tonight Young and Hagan and tomorrow night McMillan and Kyan will appear. Friday night Northedge will meet all comers. a The Lovejoy School Building. Citizens of Northeast Washington held a meeting last night in furtherance of their wishes concerning the improvement of the con- dition of the Lovejoy school building and its surroundings. Mr. R. D. Raffin, chairman of the committee appointed for the purpose, re- ported that he had scen the Commissioners and presented the resolutions passed by the recent meeting of citizens, and that Commissioner Dougiass assured him that the matter would be looked into at once and the evils at and about the school building remedied if found to be as represented in the resolutions, The Choral Society. ‘The past year has been the most successful one in the history of the Choral Society. Ata special business meeting of the society last evening reports on the sale of tickets and other matters were discussed. The three con- certs given this season have cost 3,500, and the deficit will not amount to more than 350, In addition to this the society kas a debt of $500. An effort will be made to have this sum subscribed, so that at the annual meeting on the last Tuesday of this month the an- nouncement may be made that the society is entirely free from debt. At the meeting last night resolutions of thanks were passed to Metzerott & Co. for the use of their bail for rehearsals,to Mrs. Thur- ber for her interest and help, to the press of the city for their kindness and courtesy; also to Dr. Eraest F. King. the secretary of the society, to whose efficient aid so much of the success of the society has been due. Dr. King announced that owing to the pressure of pro- fessional work he would be obliged to decline the office of secretary for the coming year, Cable Car Accidents. A yellow dog was the victim of a curious ac- cident on the 7th street cable road early this morning. The dog was caught by a grip car near 7th and E streets and was carried ali the way down the track tothe fiver front.
