EPIPHANY coe CHURCH WORK, Purchase of a Lot for a New Chapel— Memorial Windows Contributed. The Church of the Epiphany has contributed eince December 1 to the missionary work of the Protestant Episcopal Church $26,000. In this amount is included its Easter offering of $17,500 for the purchase of a lot upon which to erect a large chapel for its mission work in South Washington. The lot purchased is the northeast corner of 12th and C streets, near the Smithsonian Institution, belonging formerly to the Blunt estate. ‘two very handsome imported stained glass windows have been placed in the church build- ing onG street. One was contributed by the Sunday school and members of the congregs- tion in memory of the late rector, Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Giesy, and his daughter Annie, whose death soon followed that of her father. ‘“E pluribus unum.’ What does he mean by that?” “Won from many. Gower ro West Vinorxia TO Worx.—There Was an exodus this morning from Georgetown to the southern part of West Virginia, where seventy-five cotored men have been sent by Messrs. Beckwith & Quackenbush to work upon the excavation of a railroad tunnel. Not Exovca Cars ror tHe Cnowp.—The cars of the Georgetown and Tenleytown rail- road carried upon each trip yesterday as many people as the cars would hold and might have carried five times as many if there had been more frequent trips. A great number of peo- ple mn the afternoon, including ny from ‘ashington, had to give up the idea of Piakine the trip for want of cars to accommodate them, Tur New Cunist Cuurcu Rectory.—The new rectory of Christ Church, Georgetown, re- cently completed, is now occupied by’ the rector. the Rev. Dr. Stuart, and his family. The Leepone g was wisely EE with a view to comfort and presents a handsome appearance. It igemple in size without being too large, finely located and provided with every modern convenience. Its cost, including the lot on which it stands, was $12,000, nearly one-half of which amount was obtained from the sale of the old rectory. Dr, Stuart’s people, however, have added $5,500 to this within the year, their Easter offering for the purpose having been $3,000. The zeal and energy displayed in this undertaking will be recognized when it is borne in mind that less than four years ago the new church building of this parish, which cost in all $50,000, was be | rae and conse- crated without a dollar of debt resting upon it ‘Tue Water Marys Connectep.—A success- ful connection was made early Saturday of the 36-inch and 30-inch mains on M street. Within a short time another counection will be made at Foundry branch. Col. Elliott intends to have the gate-chamber built as soon as pow sible on M street, in order to allow uninter- fered travel and also that the street may be improved. He plead guilty in the Police Court this mornin, to a charge of disorderly conduct and was fined $5 or 15 days. Bowman's collateral was for- feited. Arriictep Win “Hysterics ayp Witp- rie.” —There was a short, thick-set woman in the Police Court today for vagrancy. She gave ber name as Annie Terrill, but the police know her as Miller. She has rel tives in Ten- leytown and was dressed ina suit of clothes patched with all colors and wore an old-fash- joved sun bonnet, “I am subject to two com- plaints,” she said when arraigned, ‘hysterics and wildfire.” Policeman Bryan told of the arrest and Bailiff Kendig said that the woman had been an inmate of St. Elizabeth’s hospital for the insane. Sergeant Byrnes said he had known the woman; that she had a brotber in Tenleytown, but that he could do nothing for her. Judge Miller suggested that she be sent to the work house, where she could be cared for in the hospital. ‘1 don’t want to goto that hospital,” she said. “And if sent there I will run eway. Iran away from there once before. If you send me anywhere send me tothe in- sane asylum. When I go to the work house I can't stand the wildfire.” The court commit- ted her to the work house, hoping she might be sent from there to the insane hospital. J. Fisher and wife by their children in this city. SaaS Saee SOUTHERN TROTTING CIRCUIT. Everything Ready For the Opening of the First Meeting at Bennings. The track at Bennings is fully prepared for the first meeting of the Southern Trotting Cir- cuit, which opens tomorrow. The late rains have made the track rather heavy, but the sunshine of today will be amply sufficient to put it in splendid condition. The meeting at Washington is the opening of the circuit and little can be judged as to the form of the tro ters. However, « large number of the beauties are on hand, and judging from the appearance of the flyers the races will be closely contested andexciting. The list of local horses entered for the events is rather small and only includes John H. Gheen’s Susie G. and H. B. Denny Nellie S. The races will commence promptly at 2 p.m.. and ample facilities for reaching the track will be afforded by the Pennsylvania rail- road. Betters will have ail the chance they want to back their choices, as both the seduc- tive Paris mutual and the enticing book maker will be on hand prepared for wm Bony i Takoma Park in Luck. When the congregation assembled in the Union Chapel at Takoma Park yesterday morn- ing they were agreeably surprised to see anew organ in the place of the old one. When Rev. C. H.
