Moore and Miss Jennie Hart, which occurred ‘Yuesday evening near this village, was marked by a sensational feature which has just trans- pirea. Rev. W. F. Poor performed the ceremony and when he had finished the bride burst into tears and cried: “Ihave married the wrong man!” On being asked who the right one might have been she indicated the young man who had acted as best man. it has been learned that both the groom and his best man were suitors for her hand, and, aithough she did not like Moore as well as the other, ina fit of pique she accepted him and then did not dare to back out. When the ir- revocable words were pronounced that bound her for life, however, her emotion overpowered ber and she was unable to restrain the tell tale words which rushed to her lips. Policeman Campbell met him a few days ago and he was ringing a dinner bell to attract customers, The officer warned him that he was violating the police regulations by ringing the bell. “All right,” was the Italian's response. The Good Templars’ committee will have a conference with the ministers of several of the churches this even- ing on the subject of a series of efforts to ad- vance the temperance canse, It is an open secret that the new law is not so much intended to control the liquor traffic as to prevent the use of coupons in payment for liquor licenses, Before any application can be considerrd by linding fixsh, wie it was observed that the paper on which the powder rested was not even scorched. Disappeared Mysteriously. “Where is Jane Mack?” is the question that is at present puzzling Detectives Raff and Car- ter. Jane was s rag-picker, but was supported mostly by the charity of her neighbors, She lived at the house of ® colored rag-dealer named W. H. Campbell, No, 1254 $d street southwest, which is in the neighborhood of “Blood Field” and “Fredericksburg.” Jane, who was about fifty years old, had lived at the house of Campbell for a long time Prior tothe Ist of February, when Campbell wanted her room, as he was making prepara- tions for the extension of his business. Then the old woman rented a summer kitchen in rear of Mrs, Holland's house, next door, for @1 a month and lived there for three day: On the morning of February 3 she left the house, Mrs. Holland says she asked her where she was going and Jane replied: “I'm going over to Georgetown, honey, and find my Bs That morning. Mrs. Holland. sa} an umbrella and bag in her Although Jane did not return Mrs. Holland did not report her disappearance to the police. After she left Campbell's house the latter's wife used to hand Jane something ney eat over the fence every morning and the last morning she knocked for her she received no response, but thought she heard Jane groaning. Noth- ing was heard of Jane after the day mentioned, and her disappearance was not reported to the olive until Yesterday, when one « of ‘the neigh- ors. who suspects foul play, called a ice headquarters and made tis statement to i peer Swindells, The inspector detailed Detectives Carter and Raff to investigate the case and they visited the houses of Mrs. Holland and Cambell, They learned that Jane came here eleven years ago from South Carolina and she often stated that she had no relatives here. She several times said that she had some gold and silver Jewelry and it was also thought that she had money, although no one claims to have ever seen the mouey. The room in which Jane lived is locked on the outside and has not been opened since she left it The officers are of the opinion that there is something wrong about the mysterious disappearance, but whether there was any foul play or not they will not give an opinion, The records of the health office were searched, but her name does not appear among the names of the dead, nor is she in any of the hospitals or charitable institutions, Camp Fire at G.A.R.
