Mike Bolger of This City Whips White of Boston in Thirteen Minutes. AN EXHIBITION THIS MORNING WHICH GAVE GREAT SATISFACTION TO 4 CROWD OF DISTRICT SPORTS—WHITE THROWS UP THE SPONGE AFTER 4 DESPERATE ENOOGN7ZR OF THREE ROUNDS, A prize fight took place this morning in Maryland, just the other side of the District line, between Mike Bolger of this city and Wm. White of Boston and resulted in a victory for Bolger after three of the hottest rounds ever witnessed in this locality, At the end of that time White threw up the sponges, The fight was one of the bloodiest on record and at one time it was hard to dis tinguish the features of either man on ac- count of their sanguinary appearance. Those who obtained tickets were given the tip to meet at the corner of 9th and Pennsylvania avenue this morning at 7 o'clock. About 6:30 they be- e to arrive and before 8 o'clock quite a crowd assembled at the point named. All sorte of vehicles were there ready to convey the sport- ing element to the scerte of the combat, THE DEPARTURE. Promptly at 8o’clock the procession began to move, but as yet no one knew where the fight would take place, Across the Anacostia bridge the cavalcade proceeded and when they reached the other side quite a oe Upc of navy ‘sports joined the party. U; asylum bill the strange procession me | fo) @ passer-by remarked that it was a funeral, Sergeant McCathran and Private Anderson of the Metropolitan police force followed the men to the District line and x the fight from one of the surrounding hi THE aie After an hour's ride the party came in sight of thering. It was pitched in a kindof a valley just opposite to Alexandria, Quite a crowd of countrymen were on the spot and when the party drove a =p they were given a heurty welcome. Everything was in readiness for the men, in fact the arrangements could not have been better, and the sports from Washington had but @ short time to wait before White the Boston boy made his ap- arance. He was dressed in blue tights and lack stockings and wore a sweater, He weighed 143 pounds and looked in fine con- dition, Bolger, who soon followed, wore black tights and weighed 151 —— He was swathed in blanketea. A Washington prize fighter was chosen referee. After the coin had been tossed for positions both men took their corners and advanced to the center of the ring and shook hands at the callof the referee, Billy Young and Mike Hogan of Wilmington, Del., seconded Bolger, while Jimmy Edwards and Robert Kaine did the honors for White. THE FIRST ROUND. At the call of time both men sprang lightly into the middle of the ring and sparred for an opening. Bolger was the first to lead, He feinted with his right and then sent his left full of steam into the body of his antagonist which brought a grunt of dissatisfaction from that man. In getting away, however, he re- ceived a@ stinger on the jaw which shook him considerably. Bolger then assumed the aggressive and landed repeatedly on his oppo- nent's body. A swinging right hander followed by a stiff upper cut brought the claret and Bol- [ond as allowed first blood. White led for the Vashington man’s wind, but his blow fell short and in getting away he received a stinger in the mouth tor his trouble, which greatly discon- certed him, THE SECOND ROUND, The second round was hot from the begin- ning to the end, and each man did his utmost to knock the other out It was anybody's fight until the round was about half closed, when Bolger let his left go with tremendou: force and landed on his antagonist’s jaw with a thud that brought a shiver from the crowd. From that on the fight was terrific and much close fighting was indulged in. White looked like a slaughtered ox and Bolger was covered with the blood which squirted from White's mouth and nose. Still he kept at it, and just at the cail of time Bolger swung his right and catching White on the point of the chin sent him to grass amid wild excitement. THE BLOODY THIRD. When the third round opened both men ap- peared well, The seconds had taken goodcare of their menin the minute's rest, and when they faced each other at the call of time both looked fresh and clean. But this state of clean- liness did not last long. Bolger went in to finish his man and raiued blow after blow on the bean eater's proboscis, while the blood fiew in all directions. Another knock down by Bolger and then a terrific blow from White in the region of Lolger’s heart had @ tendency to turn the tide of victory. But it wes only momentary. Bolger swung his right, which had done such terrific execution in the first part of the fight, and again sent his oppo- nent to grass. Assoon as he aroseBolger knocked him down again, but not before he received a hot one in the eye. White pluckily arose, how- ever, but Bolger was waiting for him and as soon as he was clearly on his feet, the Washington man made a chopping block of his face. White was a gory sight, and stood in the middie of the ring helpless and bewildered. Bol, te realized that he was done for and wouldn’t him, although urged on by the heartless pile “You can have the fight,” White muttered in an undertone as he walked aimlessly toward his corner. The referee then awarded the fight to Bolger and the sports yelled. A WELL PLEASED CROWD. ‘The fight as a whole wasa bloody one, and while it lasted but thirteen minutes and forty- two seconds it was hot and terrific. The sports were well | sore and all joined in giving Bol- ger three hearty cheers. = The crowd then dispersed and reached Wash- Tigton about noon. The fighters, however, re- asthe metropolitan guardians of the peace kept watch on a hill near by to nab them as soon as they crossed the District line, The bad management of most of the recent fights about the city was wholly eliminated in this encounter which terminated so satisfactory to those who wanted to see a square knock down fight. There is no doubt that both men did their utmost to win and White only suc- cumbed after he was fairly whipped. It was Bolger’s first fight and the littie Irishman clearly demonstrated by the way he handled himself that he had bright prospects before him in the fistic arena. 1t is understood that he will shortly challenge one of the local middle weights toa fight toe finish, Marriage L Licenses.
