He bas been quite sick for some time past, but his exultation has overcome the grip and he is circulating around once more, “For six years,” said be to ® Stax reporter this morning, “I have constantly contended for the principle which the Supreme Court of the United States in its decision on Monday ‘sunounced in strong language to be a correct one—that members of the organization known as the Mormon church are not fit to administer an American commonwealth. By the laws of Idaho they are disfranchised, and the disfran- chisement is made more complete, if that is ible, by the constitution tor the state of Faske son before Congress. The Si ‘Court not only aftirmed the coustitutionality of ot this provision, but commended its spirit,” “What about its connection with the admim sion of Idaho as a sta’ asked the re] q “It removes all doubt as to odmnionen,” wee plied Mr. Dubois. “All the objections against statehood came from Mormons and from those who were doubters as to the constitutionality of the clause in the state constitation which says that no one who belongs to an organt: tien wi teaches polygamy and bigamy shall vote. The Mormons are making strenuous efforts to convince the democrats in Congress that the Idaho non-Mormons who stand up for disfran- chising Mormons are all republicans. This oft-repeated statement of theirs might have some force and effect were it not that the lead- ing democrats of the territory are bere to re- fute it. The democratic party of Idaho, in the legislature, in the constitutional convention and at the polls, have voted solidly with the re- publicans for six years in favor of the disfran- chisement. Representative dernocrats are here to speak for themeclves and their party.” DISTRICT GOVERN MENT. Why ‘There ' Were Two Ministers. There was some curious questioning afloat in the assemblage at the funeral at the White House yesterday as to why there were two pas- tors of different denominations present and officiating. The reason was that Mrs. Tracy was a Methodist, as is the Secretary, while their daughter Mary was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal church in this city. Mrs, Wilmerdi isalso an Episcopalian. Thus it was decide that the service should be a composite one to the extent of having present a minister of both churches a vd in the faiths of the de- ceased, while the Episcopal service was fol- lowed to the letter.
