Ed THE EVENING STAR has the fullest Local Cirenlution of any Newspaper in the Werld ly in worth other pupers published it Room 93, Tribune Building, Through the blunder of considering the Dis- trict appropriation bill under the rales of the last House the additional provisions simed against the overhead electric wires have been stricken ont, and the bill proposes no material modifications of the existing law on this sub- ject. Those representatives who, professing to be hostile to the overhead wires, defeated by points of order the requirement that the elee- tric light wires should be buried after a certain date, and that afier a Inter date the poles should be taxed, ought now as a vindication of their good faith to formulate and press for passage the comprehensive and well-guarded plan of burial for which they expressed a de- wre. Under the law no additional overhead wires can be erected, and an elaborate and able report on the best methud of disposing of those how standing has been prepared by the Engi- heer Commissioner and submitted to the Senate im response to its request. The careful consid- eration of the matter by the District authorities which some of the Representatives wished asa preliminary to the serions step of incommoding the overhead electric wire companies bas al- ready been given. Congress, if it wants to act, emp uct at once on the basis of the infor- mation furnished by Major Raymond's report, and by the discussion of the subject during several years in both Honses. ‘That the overhead electric wires should be put underground is the opinion of the public in every large city, and is th expressed opinioa of the overwhelming majority of Congressmen.
