The accident will be investigated in the Police Court when Woodward is able to appear. — A Gum Chewer as a Witness. It riles Judge Miller to have a woman in his court chewing gum. Yesterday Anme Sullivan appeared in court and charged “Bill” Humph- reys with threatening her. When she took the | stand to testify she did not remove from her mouth the gum she was masticating but at- | tempted to talk and chew at the same time. | The judge requested her to remove the morsel from her mouth. Her face flusiied, but instead of removing the gum she rolled it into a corner | of her mouth and continued her story with such effect that Humphreys was required to give real estate security or go to jail. — A German Study Club., The first meeting of the German study club was held last evening at the residence of Dr. | Brackett, 1310 Rhode Island avenue. The | theme for the evening discussion was “Ein Buckblick” (looking backward.) Mr. G. According to reports the robbers “held up” several men and were waiting for the mail carrier. The news of their presence reached the mail car- rier, who started to the fort armed with a | seven-shooter. and it is reported that he saw the robbers ieaving the road as he approached ‘the hiil leading to the fort. Thanksgiving Day Weddings—Personal Notes of Interest. Mrs, Harrison with Mrs. Dimmick, her niece, who had spent the night at the White House, drove in the morning yesterday to 812 12th street, where Mrs. Scoti-Lord is staying, and paid her a visit, Mrs. Scott-Lord will be wholly unable tosee her many friends for some time to come, much as she desires to see them. Through the heavy down pour of rain that prevailed on Wednesday night a bridal party and a company of wedding guests assembled in Epiphany church for the marriage of Miss Emma Franzoni Marshall, daughter of Mrs. J. V. Marshall of No 1312 I street, and Mr. Henry P. West, son of Mr. T. West of the firm of West Brothers, brick manufacturers. The ceremony was at 7 o'clock, Dr. McKim, the rector, ofliciating. The groom was attended by his brother, Mr. Chas.
