Isee that an attempt has been made since the publication of the editorial in your paper, to justify the appointment of ex-Senator Bruce as recorder of deeds by claiming that he is a citizen of the District. Before the election Mr. Bruce temporarily resided in Indiana. At the time of the election of delegates to the Chicago convention Mr. Bruce was a candidate from Mississippi, but was defeated by James Hill, at present a contesting Congressman from Missis- sippi. Mr. Bruce presided over a convention which was recently held in Mississippi, and he with Mr. Lynch aud others formed a committee which waited on the President and presented said resolutions, which were signed by each of said gentlemen as citizens of Mississippi. Those resolutions are on file at the White House. Is Mr. Bruce a citizen of the District of Columbia for revenue only? Again, why is Mr. Bruce so active around the departments securing ap- pointments for Mississippians if he is a citizen of the District? Citizen OF THE Distnict. ——_—-—_—_ Grace Church’s Fair.
