Sir Jnlinn and Lady Pauncefote gare a din- ner party at the British legation last evening in howor of the distinguished English tourists, the Lady Dowager Countess Shrewsbury and the Countess Selkirk. The other guests pres- ent were Mixs Pauncefote, the secretaries of the a Hon. Henry Edwardes, Mr. and Mra. Michac! Herbert, Mr. Arthur Herbert, Mr. Chas, Hall, Q.C., M_P., also attorney to the prince of Wales, and Mr. Cecil Spring-Rice, who was once « secretary of the legation and has many friends in the city, A very pretty honse wedding was that cele- brated Inst evening at o'clock at the resi- dence of Mrs. Nil I street, when Miss Virginia Ogden Niles. daughter of the late Mr. Samuel V. Niles, and Mr. Wm. Thompson Hat ris Were united in matrimony. The house has a large drawing coom with a bay window in the front and also a bay window in the side op- posite the drawing room door that opens from the hall. From this door to the bay window White ribbons were drawn to the side bay window, outlining an aisle for the bridal party to pass through the room. The deep window Was set with palms and blooming clirysanthe- mums and prien dieu forthe pair to kneel | upon. The Swale room was profusely gat- nished with flowers and paims, the portico at the back,upon which opened a French window, was lighted with lanterns and was a prett Promenade later in the evening. Mrs. Ellicott wore a dress of blue silk trimmed with white lance and Mrs. Slay- maker wore a gown of black velvet, Dr. Addi- son of Trinity church, assisted by his son. Rev. D. D. Addixon of Beverly, Masa., and cousin of the bride, with the groom and his best man, Mr. Newton Eustis, awaited the bridal party that entered the room. The ushers headed the procession, followed by the brides maids, the Misses Cammack, cousins of the groom, and the Misses’ Emory of Baltime Miss May Pratt of thie city, and Miss Smith of Springfield. Ill, cousins of the bride, and Miss Anna Wilson, danghter of Judge Jeremiah Wilson, preceded | the bride as maid of honor. The bride en- | tered with her mother, Mrs, Niles. The bride’ attendants grouped themselves very prettily in and about the deep window, the ceremony pro- ceeded, and Mrs. Niles gave her daughter's hand in marriage. The bride wore a superb dress of white heavy faille francaise, trimmed with silver brocade and duchesse lace. The court train was several vards in length and the Jong tulle veil fell to the edge of it and was fastened to the coiffure by a half wreath of erushed white roses. The bridal bouquet was composed of bridal roses tied with white rib- bons. Mrs, Niles wore a train dress of black nuns’ ‘veiling draped in crape. Miss Anna Wilson wore a short dress of pink | tulle embroidered with chemile, and carried a bouquet of La France roses tied with broad sash ribbon. Miss Cammack and Miss Emory wore dresses of Nile green tulle, Miss Emily Cammack and Miss Grace Emory were in| dresses of corn-colored tulle and Miss Jessie | Smith and Miss Pratt wore dre of biue tulle. They were made uniformly short, | sleeveless, with half-high round necks and broad sashes about the waists, and they held fans in their hands. At the close of the cere- mony Mr. and Mrs. Harris reecived the felic’ tions of the company and the supper was served. Later in the evening the bride and room donned travelers’ clothes and departed. he bride went away in a dress of steel-colored cloth trimmed with paseamenterie, a sealskin eape and a black toque. The ashers were Mr. Edward Koch, Mr. Charles Keiter, Mr. John Hodges and Mr. Jobn Eber. and after they had seated the guests in the church they headed the bridal proces- sion to the altar. They were followed by Misa Susie Koch, the maid of honor, and Mr. James | McGlue, best man. who walked together, and the bride and groom, walking arm in arm, closed the line.
