Some weeks ago the Indianapolis board of children’s guardians established by the Indi- ana legislattre lost winter took temporary charge of Luin Hyer, aged eleven. The child then had a beautiful head of golden hair.which was cut off by order of the board. The review- ing court ordered Luin back into the custody ot her mother, who now sues the board for 2.500 damages for the loss of the child’s hair. Mary Washington Monument. A meeting was held at the old South church, Boston, Saturday last, in commemoration of the visit to Boston and vicinity of President Washington one hundred years ago. It was also made the occasion for the inanguration of a movement to raise $5,000 to be devoted to the restoration and completion of the monu- ment over the grave of Washington's mother, whieh, fifty yeare ago, a public-spirited gen- tleman of New York city undertook to erect at Fredericksburg. The president of astreet-car line in New York felt gratified a night or two ago and ex- pressed his joy in unmeasured terms to his friends at dinner. ‘One of the camera fiends,” he said, “has been captured in Berlin and sen- tenced tosix months’ imprisonment. Now I am watching for the first case of arrest and conviction here.
