He preached here this morning and was in his usual health. After dinner he com- plained of feeling unwell and sent for Dr. Wells, The doctor found him unwell and somewhat excited, but after administering remedies he rallied and in a short time assumed his usual manner and spirits and chatted cheer- fully about various matters, reclining, mean- while, on the bed. The doctor afterward ex- amined his heart, and, finding some derange- ment, advised him to give es smoking, to | which he was much addicted. To this he said nothing. Shortly afterward he closed his eyes, | his face flushed slightly and all was over in an | instant. He was just preparing to go to his | | charge at Bennings, where he had an appoint- ment for this afternoon. Mr. Reed was a Vir- ginian and was about fitt; years old at the time of his death.
