A CAMPAIGN WITH TH CAMERAS. The Amateur Photographers Make a General Raid on the City Today. His solar highness, father and patron saint of photography, beamed and emiled this morn- ing on the knights of the shutter who packed up their plates and tripods and assembled at the rooms of the camera club for the purpose of piecemealing the city into sections five by eight, four by five, ten by eight. He drove the clouds away before he appeared himacif and made every condition favorable to the enterprise of illustrating Washington, There were about @ score of members at the club rooms, of whom fifteen or sixteen came pre- pared to take photographs and the others to give advice as to the choicest bits of scenery. APPORTIONING THE WORK. The committee in charge, however, had posted several lists of what was wanted on the bulletin board, and as the members arrived z portioned off the locations they were to visit. ey Were sent off, usually in pairs, some to Fe ‘dome of the Capitol to get bird's-eye views, the same onez to the monument and the roof of the Agricultural department for the same purpose, one to the navy yard, and so on until the entire field was covered, Most of the members have dark rooms at home and bad “loaded” their boxes with plates before starting out, but one or two who eep their stock at the club rooms went to work at once in the large and well-appointed dark room of the club to prepare themselves for the campaign. This room occupies almost the eatire width of the building at the rear and is tarnished with ali modern conveniencies for the pose of squeezing history out ofa thin piece of gelatine. A REGION OF GLOOM. It is entered by a winding passage way that lets not asingle ray of white into the ruby at- mosphere of the precincts sacred to gloom. ‘The walls of this passage. as well as the w: of the room itself, are painted a dull black, the effect upon the uninitiated Stam reporter when he entered this moruing was rather blind- ing and bewildering. But for the steady red diffusion from the three square pieces cut out of the blackness and the dim figure of a man stooping over a sink in the corner the place might easily have been mistaken for the deepest of coal mines. MISS JORNSON’S HORST: SHOE, Most of the view hunters had gone when the only lady member of the club, Miss Jobnson, arrived, gleefully exhibiting a “horse shoe” which she had picked up on the street just in front of the building. ‘This. of course, augured the best of success forthe enterprise aud tor the clab generally until some iconoclastic photographer discovered tuet it was a mule’s shoe. It was nailed up over the door of the trout room, however, and the membersare now satistied that their plates will develop in good detail and that every process will work satisfac- torily. GETTING LONG PERSPECTIVES. It is the intention of the club to illustrate Washington primarily as the “city of megnifi- cent dist * that is its world-renowned title, and to this end many views will be taken to show the wonderful amount of perspective possible in nearly every scene of the capital city. High structures, which abound, and elevated points of land, which are not lacking, will be fought today iur this purpose. ————__ BROOKLYN GE THE PENNANT. Von der Ahe Knocked Out and the As- sociation Struggle Ended. The supplementary season in the American association race was begun yesterday, but the very first game settled the pennant struggle, Cincinnati winning from St. Louis by the score of $to3, This renders further struggling un- necessary, as the Browns could not possibly overtake the Bridegrooms in the time left. Thus Von der Abe has to swallow bitter medi- cine and aecept second place for the first time in bis base-ball history, The other games of the association resulted thus: At Cincinnati (second game)—St. Louis, 2; Cincinnati, 1. At Philadeiphia—Athletics, 10; Baltimore, 3. inasmuch as the disappointment of the Browns occurred in Cincinnati it is not likely that they will carry out their program of going to Philadelphia in a special train, and it is most likely that the fiual record of the association stands thus: Per Brooklyn St. Low 6 Ath} Cincinnati. -5A7 Lultimore..... 518 | Colmmbas +480 Kansas 402 Louisville, 198 MONTGOMERY COUNTY. Ap Alleged Mlegal Registration—A Chal- lenge for a Joint Political Debate. Correspondence of Tur Evexixe Stan. Rocxvitxe, October 16, A hearing in the case of Alfred Bradley (col- ored) was had here today before Justice Mor- gan. The state was represented by Edward C. Peter, state's attorney, and the defendant by Hon. Geo. Peter. G. Minor Anderson, register of voters for the fourth election district, the only witness for the prosecution, testified that he registered the accused on a transfer from the fifth district, and afterward found his name on a list of persons Who had been in the peni- tentiary, and made the necessary oath for bis arrest. The prisoner testified that after he came out of the penitentiary his father in- formed him that he was not twenty-one years of age when he was convicted, and upon that | information he made application and was reg- istered in the fifth district. His father, now a resident of Prince George's county, was notified of the day of trial, but failed to put in an ap- pearance. The case was argued by the Messrs Veter, and at the conclusion the prisoner was held to bail in the sum of $200, and failing to give security was recommitted to jail. Yhere were # large number of persons present at the hearing and much interest manifested in the care. A formal challenge to the democratic candi- dates for a joint discussion of the subject of county taxation and expenditures has been sent to the democratic central committee by the republican managers, and Mr. Phikp D. Laird, chairman of the committee, will soon call a meeting of his associates to take the mat- ter inte consideration. Should the discussion take place it will doubtless prove the most ex- citing episode of the campaign and will draw large crowds. it is reported here that Mr. Washington W. Miss Sallie C. Oliver of Martinsburg, W.Va., who has been visiting the family of Mr. Wil- ium A. October 31; Clarksburg, November 1, Laytonsville, No- vember 2, and Spencerville, November 4. It is expected that the republicans will announce a series of meetings this week. Previous to the rain storm of this week the farmers of this county were busily engaged in wheat seeding and a number had completed their work. 1t is said that more than the usual area of land will be seeded this season. Officers Elected and a Committee on Reorganization Appointed. A meeting of the Committee of One Hundred was held last evening at the office of Mr. W. C. Dodge. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Dr. Robert Rey- burn; vice president, Charles King; secretary, E. B, Stocking: treasurer, A. C. Richards. It was thought that the present rules of the committee were cumbersome and a check upon its usefulness, and a committee consisting of Gen. Hovey, 8. C. Clark and W. J. Frizzell was “ppointed to prepare a plan of reorganization and report at the next meeting. A resolution was adopted providing for the division of the section beyond the bounds of the city by the line of Pennsylvania avenue ex- pastel as the residents of the Anacostia section to form association No. 9, and the section north of Pennsylvania avenue to be known as associ- ation No. "0, and that the Bennings improve- ent association be recognized as such asso- ciation and entitled to send three delegates to the general committee. THE WORLD'S FATR OF 1892. A resolution favoring the holding of the 1892 exposition in this city was adopted and a com- mittee, consisting of the officers and J. W. Bab- son, Dr. Charles Allen, M. The appeal of Gen. E. F. Judge Brooke delivered the opinion of the court sustaining the registration officer in his re- fusal to register Gen. Gen, Parker is now a resident of New York, in which city he helds a municipal office, but he is generally known us the chief of the Six Tribes or the Indians of New York. He said yesterday, speaking of the tribes under him, that, a rouge as chief he would nominally remain at their head until his death, he was becoming Jess their ruler each year, “Phere are about 00 Indians in New York,” he said, “and at one time I devoted nearly all my time to them, But civilization has had its effect, and parties of them have from time to time organized un- der their own direction into small govern- ments, something like the way a township 18 managed.
