AsaSrar reporter descended the declivity toward the shanties which stood in the way of the extension of Prospect avenue this morning the residents in that section evidently mistook him for an officer of the law coming to turn them out upon the cold world, as they were of the opinion that today was the date fixed for their eviction. The house in which Mrs, Dris- coll resided until a few days ago, when she moved into a new one, was undergoing demo- lition this morning, but the residences of Mra. Sullivan and John Donovan still stand. In both of these houses the tenants are aged and feeble and wholly dependent upon charity. Mra, Sullivan signified hor willingness ‘to a Srar orter go any day the authorities onight | x upon ‘t 8 knew where to go or what todo. Her house, if it may be so called, is a mere tumble-down sbanty, which lets in the wind and weather. The venerable John Donovan was visited by the reporter while he was preparing his morn- ing meal. He stopped long enongh to tell his tale of woe. He is at least eighty years old and lives in his humble abode alone. Like his neighbor, Mrs. Sullivan, he does not know = to go or what to do when turned out of his home. Both expected to be homeless by nightfall until answered by Tne Star man that the order issued by the District Commissioners to Maj. Moore allows them one more day. It reads, “Upon the expiration of that date (the 2ist inst. ime buildings then obstructing the street will be promptly removed.” GEORGETOWN. During the summer he would sleep out doors as long jas he could do so without fear of illness, | but when cold weather came on he would seek the warmth of the workhouse. Yesterda Officer Bloom found him in a recently vacate house on K street too ill to walk to the station. He was removed to Providence hospital, where he died shortly after his arrival. Harnedy of $58, <n Thursday's Svan, was exonerated when the case was inves- tigated by Prosecuting Attorney Mullowney at the Police Court.
