This irritated re and he spoke of Mr. Wall as an interloper. An animated verbal coutroversy followed. Finally Mr. Cabill disclaimed any intention of dis- courtesy to the court, and Judge Mills rendered formal judgment in the matter as follows: “Gentlemen, if you have no respect for your- selves you ought to have some for the court. Mr. ill was entitled to the chair. defending a case and he hada right to a seat, erty—The Coming Season. At this season of the year real estate trans- actions are at about their slowest. It is the tail end of the dull season and just before the fall activity begins. It is when the real estate men are looking back at the most trying time of the year, when everybody is out of town, to see how they have gone through it, and at the same time getting glimpses of what they are to expect for the fall trade. Take the whole summer through and they have little to complain of. It bas been a season of unusual firmness, though quiet. Real estate has held its own well. Values in individual cases from special causes | may have shrunk a little, but there has been no general falling off of values. _In fact, without any especial activity, the indications have stood steadily the other way. In some sections where they have had big booms in the past and prices have jumped up very rapidly the increase and activity have ceased together, but there has been no decline, The impetus toward the suburbs has slackened and the ten- dency of the market is in favor of property within the city. Sections of the city that have been a little behind the rest in improvements | are coming in for their turn by the natural reaction from the very high values reached in other sections, THE FALL SEASON begins abont the middle of September and reaches its heighth about January. There is general concurrence of opinion that the indica- tions now are that when the season begins it will be active. The whole outlook is cheerful in all quarters, There 18 no indication of arti- ficial booming, but everything points to steady and firm business. There isa great deal that is being talked about in the way of buying and building that will not materialize until later. RECENT DEALS, During the past seven days but few deals of any magnitude have been entered upon, and some that have been started are not yet com- pleted. F. H. Smith & Sons sold for Dr, Frank Thomas of Sandy Sprin, Md, to Thomas W. Smith, the lumber merc! ant, the south half of the square on north side of H street northeast between 13th and 14th, The price paid was $29,000. ‘The property will probably be im- proved soon by the erection of a number of | welling houses, The northeastern section is having an ex- traordinary season and real estate men are pre- dicting great advances there during the full that will be steady and hold. THE STREET IMPROVEMENTS in that section and the consolidation arrange- ment for transfer between the Metropolitan and the Columbia railroads have increased values and aroused considerable activity. Men who put money into property in that section some months ago are in high feather over their in- vestments, During the past two months just ended four hundred new houses have been oc- cnpied in that section by either purchasers or tenants. The building of small houses has been phenomenal for that section. The indications seem to be that high-priced roperty in the best sections of the city will ‘old its own well, and that there will be a gen- eral activity in sections of the city where vi ues are still low. Property outside the city limits is expected to stand where it is or advance slowly with the opening season, while the chief attention is given to city property. The indications in all directions seem healthy. THE BUILDING SEASON. Building Inspector Entwisle said to a STAR reporter toduy: “I don’t think any one can complain of the building season. It has been unusually active all summer despite the em- barrassments it had to contend with. Now, for instance, there was the great flood which made the Long bridge impassable for some time, completely shutting the contractors off from their Virginia brick supply, and to make mat- ters worse, the canal broke and the brick yards in and about the city were embarrassed on ac- count of the cutting off of their supply of coal which they received by canal. he conse- uence was brick went up 50 cents a thousand. Des 20s ey all these things the trade has been “How about the fall season?” asked the re- Porter.” “Its a little too early to predict just now.” replied Mr. Entwistle, “but from the prospects it is my opinion it will be a busy one. You see it is impossible to predict with any degree of certainty until the monied men get home from their vacation.” B. H. Warner & Co. have sold to Miss Rosa Sewell for Edward N. Dickerson, jr., house 2105 O street for $7,100. —_—»—_—_ Owe Dottar Pays tae Brut, which includes the fare via B. and O. to Bay Kidge and return, also the grand display of fireworks tomorrow (Sunday ).—Adct, nae IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. An Industry Which Will Benefit the Farmers—The Restoration of the Canal. Correspondence of Tag EVENING STAR. Hacenstown, Aug. 30. Hagerstown is to have another important in- dustry added to the numerous ones now in ex- istence here—one that will open a new and profitable field for the farmers of this county, who complain that the raising of wheat is no longer remunerative. Arrangements have been made for the establishment of an exten- sive factory. Their idea is to canvass the county for contracts with farmers to furnish vegetables ata stipulated price, agreeing to purchase all the products of their lands. When sufficient contracts have been made the con- struction of the necessary buildings will be be- gun.
