The Seattle relief committee, in their letter to Col. Parkinson requesting his co-operation, state that the amounts thus far contributed are not adequate to relieve the wants of the destitute. Several thousand per- sous. the committee say, were rendered home- less and LOST ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, including their wearing apparel, Col. Parkin- | son will be in the city for several days and can | be addressed at the Riggs house. He says that | remittances of money, clothing and provisions | may be sent to the ch com- tte, J. R. Lewis of Seattie. Col. Parkinson | will call upon E. Kurtz Johnson, the treasurer | of the citizens’ relief committee of this city, and ask that some of the funds in his hands be sent to Seattle. POLITICS IN THE NEW STATES. He also intends to see the President and | Secretary Noble. His visit to the latter will be | partly political. In view of the situation there, Mr. Parkinson thinks that the policy of the | administration should be to look closely after the interests of the settlers in all four terri-| tories about to become stat@s. He says that | the legitimate application for surveys should be given attention, as many have been living for five years and more on surveyed land. Col. | Parkinson states that th: | CONSTITUTIONAL manana OF WASHINGTON | TERRITORY, which is now in session at Olympia, W. Te has a republican majority of 15 out of 75 de gates. He states that there are a number of | candidates for election to the United States | Seuate whose names will be presented to the | legislature which will be elected next fall. Among the names mentioned are ex-Governor | Squires, Mr. Haynes, and Judge Hunt, all of | Seattie; W. J. Thompson, a banker of Tacoma; | pe ilector at Fort Townsend, Mr. Bradshaw, and Hon. J. B. Allen, the present ate to Congress. Hon. E. P. Ferry is ly mentioned in connection with the governorship. He was formerly governor of the territory.
