After rec ing congratulations Mr. and Mrs, Littell took a train for the north on their bridal tour. Upon their return they will goto housekeeping in the northwestern part of the city. Reports of the Special Agents—A War of Marshals. The Secretary of the Interior has received the two reports of the special agents sent by him to the Oklahoma country to examine into the work of deputy marshals who were charged with illegally obtaining possession of lands in the Oklahoma country prior to noon of the day when the country was opened for settle- ment. These reports will not be made public, but will be used by the department in de- termining the titles to the lands, It is said that these reports entirely exonorate Marshal Needles, but implicate seriously the deputies appointed by Marshal Jones and the marshal himself. FEDERAL MARSHAL VERSUS TOWN MARSHAL. The Secretary of the interior has submitted to the Attorney-General the question which las come to him from the town of Guthrie, in Oklahoma. There is no Federal statute author- izing the organization or incorporation of a town in the Oklahoma country. In the organ- ization of the fown of Guthrie a board of arbi- tration was appointed to determine the title to lands. The town marshal, acting under orders from this board, evicted a "deputy United States marshal who in his capacity as citizen had taken possession of a town lot. On the day following a deputy United States marshal ar- rested the town marshal on some trivial charge and placed him in custody. The authorities have appealed to the Secretary of the Interior to protect them, and the Secretary has laid the matter before the Attorney-General. The At- torney-General can prevent the deputy United States marshal using undue influence to obtain possession of property, but the town marshal be Guthrie has no authority whatever under the We DISTRICT GOVERNMENT.
