Garments constructed under our own supervision for your use. Made for this market. We know Your wants and wishes; we have catered to both for forty years and we ought to, Let us show you Full Dress Suits, Prince Albert Suits and Cutaway Frock Suits that in the important features of mate- Fial, cut, make, fit and finish cannot be equalled here in Washington. Our patrons demand the finest that can be made, finer than can be sold away from here, Our prices are moderate becuuse they do not fluctuate. Always the lowest when you ‘want the goods. When you don't want them we take it that prices don’t interest you. TRE EVENING STAR has the fullest Local Circalation of avy Newspaper in the Wortd, and as an Advertising Medi is werth more than all the other papers published tn Washington. = It is asserted that the comfirmation of Mr. Webb as District Commissioner, and that af Mr. Stevenson as District judge, are to be secured in combination by virtue of a bargain between the democrats of the Senate and a few republican Senators. This will be a very curious deal. The republicans are to secure the confirmation of Mr. Webb, whom the District republicans have repudiated, by confirming for the democrats Mr. Stevenson, whose nomination the local democrats condemn. Both these can- @idates in a popular election in this community to fill the offices to which they aspire would be buried ont of sight. The District is to be made @foot-ball to be kicked by the trading pol DEALERS IN FINEST CLOTHING, cians of the Senate. Itis proposed to fill two 319,8.E. COR. OF 7TH AND D STS. of its most important offices, without the slight- | _mht-co est regard for its wishes in the matter, even in the face of public sentiment, by a contemptible barter, which on one side at least must be a personal and not a political bargain and sale. For what political advantage is to compensate Fepublicans for confirming as District judge for life, an appointment made as areward for efficient democratic political services, which offends the republican home rule principle, and is distastefnl to the bar and people of this community? What republican advantage is there in securing the confirmation of Mr. ‘Webb, when a failure to confirm will leave the whole matter in the hands of a republican President and Senate? Fvidently nothing but personal reasons can influence a republican to make a bargain of this kind. It would seem that confirmations secured by an underhand and discreditable deal would be a mortification rather than a satisfaction to the nominees, especially to a person thus con- firmed who claimed to be a republican, yet ob- tained office against the protests of the com- manity in which he was to serve, and in the face of a solid local republican disapproval, through democratic votes aided by a few trad- ing republicans. No Senator who cares a fig for the interests of the District or for his own reputation for straightforward, honest dealing will participate in the suggested traftic of votes, ‘The success of the scheme would be an outrage on this community, and a lasting disgrace to its managers and beneficiaries, _——<——— ‘The Pennsylvania road is a powerful and ad- mirably managed corporation, and whenever its own private interests and those of the public do not elash, its tremendous energies are worked in a way to demand admiration and praise. Inits present attitude towards the people of Washington it is showing its purely selfish side. Does it really think, though, that it shows its customary business sense in steadily ntagouizing the interests of this community. in ROBINSON, PARKER & CO., Fre AND Svoxe: ON ACCOUNT OF THE FIRE AT H.
