Prince George’s Beats Washington County by a Score of Six to One. Correspondence of Tur EVENING STAR. Svrrianp, Mp., Jan, 25.—The recent cock fight between Prince George's county and Washington county, Md., was the largest fought in this locality for several years. It was for $40 a battle and $500 on the main. It took place in Garvey’s pit, in Canton, Baltimore, on the night of January 23, Each party showed thir- teen and seven matches were made. Betting was 100 to 80 in favor of Washington county. First battle—Prince George’s, a pretty black, brass back, weight 5 pounds 3 ounces; Wash- ington county, a black red. weight 6 pounds, It was nip and tuck fora minute, but greater weight told, and after seven minutes the black was taken out dead, Second battle—A brown red for Prince George's county; a black red for Washington county, both weighing 5 pounds 12 ounces. This was a hard fight, Washington county having the best of it for a while, but the Prince Georgian rallied and killed his bird after twenty minutes’ hard fighting. Third battle— Two pretty black reds. weight 5 pounds 5 ounce: This was an easy victory for Prince George's, lasting only three minutes. The fourth battle was a repetition of the third, two black reds, weight 5 pounds and 2 ounces each, and lasting only five minutes of terrible fighting. when Prince George's won, killing his opponent. Fifth battle—A pretty gray, weight 5 pounds, for Washington county, and a black red for Prince George's county, weight 4 pounds 15 ounces; this was the deciding fight of the main. Both fought fast and hard, but soon the Prince Georginn had it his own way and won after ten minutes, giving Prince George's county the main. The sixth battle was between the two favorites of each county. Prince George’s county showed a beautiful black- hackle gray, noted for having won seven con- secutive battles. this being his eighth. He has quite a reputation, and is known by the name of Old Katie, weight 4 pounds, 14 ounces. Washington county brought also a gray, and a reat favorite, weight 4 pounds 15 ounces. Betting was lively at #10 to $8, in favor of Katie. They both went together like pistol shots, and it was hard to decide for some miu- utes which had the best of it. But the supérior fighting qualities of the veteran soon began to show ie nd, amid the yells of the excited crowd, he killed his eighth antagonist. Large sums changed hands, and as much as #50 was offered for this fowl. Seventh and last battle of the main—A brown red for Washington county, weight 4 pounds 4 ounces; a gray for Prince George's county, weight 4 pounds 4 ounces, This was a hard fight, but the superior condi tion of the Prince Georgian soon told, and he easily won after eight minutes. closing the main with a score of 6 to 1 in favor of Prince George’s, Four hack fights were fought, Prince George's winning three, Washington county one, eee ean sae The Fire Underwriters’ Banquet.
