GINNITY HELD TO ANSWER A CHARGE OF FORGERY. James A. Ginhity is the name of a young | Washingtonian who was arrested yesterday afternoon in Baltimore, and held to answer charges of forgery alleged to have been com- mitted in this city. The prisoner is well known here in sporting circles. His father died about four years ago and left him some money. As long as his cash lasted he had many friends, bat when he had squandered it they deserted him. ‘Then he had to raise money to keep up the style which he had formerly displayed. He Was soon suspected of irregular practices, but his acquaintances were slow to believe that he was doing anything wrong. Then complaint after complaint reached the police of his finan- | transactions, and the matter was placed in the hands of Detectives Raff and Horne, who made an investigation, as the result of which the latter officer swore out @ warrant barging Ginnity with forgery. He was lo- cated in Baltimore, where he waa captured yes- terdsy. When Detective Horne brought him back ‘to this city the prisoner told the offieer he only got about €25 or €30 from a num- of pers Charles Sloan, Henry Me- Grann, 5. Stinemetz. Joseph Fitzgerald, and Walter E. Shreeves he remembered as persons from whom he got money. The warrant against the prisoner charges lim with forging the name of Robert Wade, the 7th-street tailor, to a note requesting the loan of $5 from Jos. Fitzgerald. of the Garrick saloon. His plan was to sign the name of some person toa note requesting a small loan from a friend of the person whose name he signed. Then he would send the note by a messenger, who would re- turn with the money. The prisoner is twenty- seven years old. After spending the money left by his father he accepted a position as per at base-ball grounds. He was by Rodier & Gallagher asa s locked up at the first pre- i om, where he is held for a hearing in the I Court to-morrow, SER RELEASED ON BAIL. Mr. Carrington to-day called Judge Miller's attention to the charge against Ginnity and asked that bail be fixed. The court fixed bail at $500, which was furnished by Mr. Carring- tun, and he was released, > The Fakir’s Little Trick. HOW A MALY DOLLAR WAS MADE TO DISAPPEAR, Persons passing the space at the corner of Pennsylvania avenue and 7th street Wednes- day evening were treated torare fun. A street fokir was crying his wares in a stereotyped speech before quite a large crowd. To keep the sp rs interested the fakir interspersed his speech with tricks of magic. A small col- ored boy was yanked up on a box close beside the would-be magician, and told to open his mouth. This was done somewhat reluctantly, and the fakir proceeded to make a half dollar disappear by pretending to throw it down the little fellow's throat. “He was successful in making the money disappear, but on trying to restore the coin by palling it from the back of the lad’s neck the coin slipped, and it fell down the bor’s back. The youngster. qui k to realize tage in the situation, jamped from the box and made good his escape. much to the chagrin of the fakir and the delight of the applauding crowd. een . From Rockville.
