CITY AND DISTRICT TWO CITIZENS ASSOCIATIONS, Sixteen "embers of Ne. 6 Talk Mat- ters Over—Officers Chosen by No, 4, While awaiting ® quorum last evening, a num- ber of the members of Citizens’ Association No. 6 sat around ani told stories. The tale of Mr. A. B. ‘Mnilett, Who Was sent out with others asa nurse atter the second battle of Buli Ran, and hts eunmerstion of the commissary supplies, was the lending piece of fiction of the evening. Finally, about 9 o'clock, Dr. Reyburn, the president of the association, said that he sawonly sixteen members present, but if no one raised a potnt of no quorum they might proceed. No objection being made ‘the secretary, Mr. B.S. Pike, read the minutes of ‘the last meeting, which was held January 11. At that meeting the association adjourned without trausacting any. business, for lack of a quorum. Judge W. W. Upton wished tocozrect the minutes for omitting torecord the fact that he lad re- signed at tuat meeting as delegate to the repre- sentative committee. The secretary explained that as there was no quorum he bad made no rec- ord, but the association decided that it would be Broperto note tbe fact of Judge Upton’s resigna- bom ‘aud the minutes were corrected to this e€x- THE VACANCIES IN THE DELEGATION. Dr. Reyburn stated that tne mecting had been called for the purpose of filling vacancies in the delegation to the representative committee caused by resignations of members, He had seen a state- Ment in the papers that six members of the dele- gation from No. 6 asgociation, in connection with other members of the represencative committee, had sent their resignations to that body. He had Feeei¥Ved bo notification of an tatention to resign ‘on the part of these gentlemen, With the exception of Mr. W. S. Roose, whose written resignation had Deen received. The other members who-e names Appeared attached to the paper sent to the repre- Statauive committee were calvin Witmer, W. i. Sagleton, Joun H. Voorhees, E. B. Hay, and Asa Waitenead, six In ail, Messrs Voorhees and Sin- giewoa explained that they were walting for a Meeting of the nssoctation to send In their resig- ation "br. Revbura suggestind that, the resig- jation of Mr. Roose might be acted upoi this ‘was a special meeting, the purpose should have been specitied In the call, Which was not done. He did pot wish to appear captious, but be jught that Afteen men could not properly repre- sent the nortnwest section of the city west of 15th street, There were the names of ninety members On thé rolls of the assoctation and over forty were Jreseut wuen the delecates to the representative Committee were elevted. He thought that the iueeting ought to De more representative of the igtrict st Was supposed to represent. i. Muliett thought the objection came with your krace [rom oue Who had announced his inten- ‘os of resigning. It looked to him as if there was ap attempt to prevent the filling of the deleg .tion Defore the next meeting of the representative commitwe, with the view of preventing, if possi- Die, a Quorum of tue committee, It Was stated by Dr. Reyournm that he had the power to appoint substitutes to ll vacancies, ‘On motion of Mr, Pike, It was decided to adjourn anu the Sth of May, Whea the election will be held. WHY MR. SINGLETON RRSIGNED. Mr, A. S. Taylor observed that he had seen some- thing tm the papers about the cause of the resigna- tion of members of the representative committee, but he Would lke to hear from the gentlemen what their reasous were. Mr. Singleton said that broadly sveaking his reason for resigning was be- cause he believed that the representative commit- tee Was not advancing the Interests of the District, and fn fact in some particulars he thought they laad done exactly the reverse. ‘The bill to change the Disiriet government, he thought, was cially 0 ie, for the reason that tn opinion such a movement at thts time Was preju- ictal to the interests of the District, ‘The plan josed might be ap improvement on the present of government, but the committee had not been organized for such a purpose, and he thought Uhat It Was a public injury to begin such a move- Voorhees sald that when there was a regu- lar mecting of the association he might then say sotetuing about the reasons which had prompted his resiguatiou. The association then adjourned, ASSOCIATION NO. 4. At the annual meeting of Citizens’ Assoctation No. 4, last evening, officers for the ensuing year Were elected as follows: President, Noble D. Lar- president, A. C. Richands; seeretary, C. ; treasurer, Henry Strasburger. Dele- tle Committee of One Hundred—Messrs. Larner, A. C. Richards, john T. Given, Isaac L. Johnson, A. N. Gibbs on the 21st of April, President Pierson in the chair. In the absence of aby report from tne committee on fertilizers the subject of corn planting was taken up. T. W. Blunt asked if those who had been, raising corn tn Arills were satisfied with the result, and the ques- on received an affirmative answer generally. One advantage claimed for the plan was that being dropped so closely in line it allowed very close wi which offset in a guod degree any disad- ¥antage from not being able to work It both Ways. ‘The pianters that professed to drop in rows both Ways did not seem to give satisfaction, bat a wheat drill with all the holes stopped but two was thouznt to make a very good und satisfacwory planter. ‘Then fertilizers could be puto at the Saine tine and run through all the tubes if so de- sired. ‘The Wheat drill was considered liable to drop it too thick, but it could be thinned out afterward, though’ E. E. Mason thought his cora, ‘Where it Was quite thick, produced as much grain and more fudder than on’ the thianer portions: BY USING THE DRILL corn can be planted as fast as the ground is plowed. Jno, Ballenger said that le wouid barrow Just before the corn comes up, to prevent weeds from starting. J.N. Gibbs advocated the use of lore doubie CulLIVALOFS a3 a great saving of labor. ‘The question does white or yellow corn do best , Was not definitely answered. “As there are Tent Varieties of both kinds adapted to differ- ent sous and situations, it 1s a subject for expert. ment. ‘The tendency on going South appears to be for varieties to run more to stalk. It was Thought that there would not be so much corn Planted if grass could De got to stand better, but Tus is a serious drawback In tals vicinity. Some Thought uf more lime was used it would remedy tuts in a large degree, but opinions differed as to hot, AW: Harrison thought if gimocny was cut eariier. 28 soon as It came in , and not pastured aite. ward it wouid stand much oetter. ‘TRE CRITICAL REPORT was read by A. Mave To Fir. THAT'S WHAT WE SAY ABOUT OUR SPRING SUITS AND OVERCOATS, AND NOT ONLY ARE THEY MADE TO FIT THE REGULAR BUILT MAN, BUT THE TALL AND SLENDER, OR THE SHORT AND STOUT, WE CAN SAY WITHOUT FEAR OF ‘TRUTHFUL CONTRADICTION THAT NO OTHER HOUSE IN WASHINGTON HAS AS GREAT A VARIETY OF SHAPES AS WE HAVE. TO BEGIN, WE HAVE THE GARMENTS FOR THE TALL SLENDER MAN, CUT SO THAT THE COLLAR OF THE COAT WILL BE UP WHERE: IT BELONGS, THE SLEEVES WILL COME DOWN TO THE PROPER PLACE, AND THE VEST WILL NOT BE 80 SHORT AS TO CAUSE FEAR OF AN “INTERMISSION” BETWEEN IT AND THE TROUSERS. THEN WE HAVE THE “REGULAR” OR MEDIUM CUT FOR THE MAN OF AVER- AGE BUILD. ‘THEN COMES THE “SHORT” FOR THE MAN WITH SHORT NECK, SHORT ARMS AND INCLINED TO “ROTUNDITY.” AFTER THAT WE HAVE THE “EXTRA SHORT” FOR THE VERY SHORT AND CORPULENT MAN, THE ONE WHO SAYS HE CAN NEVER FIND ANYTHING IN READY-MADE STOCK TO FIT HIM. NO ONE MAN OR FIRM CAN MAKE ALL THE STYLES, AND THOSE WHO THINK THEY CAN, FIND OUT THAT SOME ONE ELSE HAS SOMETHING BETTER, WE HAVE MANY LINES MADE UP SPECIALLY FOR US FROM OUR OWN PIECE-GOODS, AND THESE WE CUT PRECISELY LIKE THE BEST CUSTOM WORK. WE KEEP ALSO THE LATEST NEW YORK STYLES MADE BY THE LARGEST AND FINEST MANUFACTURERS ‘THERE. : WE KEEP ALSO THE BEST THINGS FROM THE WANAMAKER’S STOCK AXD THESE ARE KNOWN TO BE FIRST.
