His black frock coat, closely buttoned over his broad breast, and his clean-shaven face, showed his clerical training. Mrs. Eaton, the master workinan of Dis- trict Assembly 97, K. of. L., under whose auspices the lecture was given, called the meeting to order. Kepreseutative Plumb, of illinois, presided and made # short address. Ogden, the young man charged with committing a felonious assault on his sister-inlaw, Miss Fowler, at her home near Hyattsville on the night of March 19th last, the complainant finished her testimony yesterday Fowler, the mother, and Edward and Benjamin, ‘the two brothers of the complainant, who testified tothe presence of the prisoner at their home onthe night charged. The brothers also testified to thecir- cumstances attending the arrest. When court ‘opened this morning the defense called Ogden to the stand. He testified that on the night charged he was at his mother-in-law’s house. After supper he said he remained talking with the family until about 10 o'clock, when the brothers retired, leav- ing nim with the witness, About 11 o'clock he kissed her and then went to his room, ‘When he lett Miss Fowler began to read her Bibie, and ina few migutes he heard ner go to her room, ‘When be awoke during the night he went into Miss Fowler’s room and Waikedagainst a chair,asshe had said. When he entered the room Miss Fowler said, “For God's sake, Lem, go out; you cannot come in here to-night." He sala, “Why?” and she said, “You cannot and must not to-night.” She further said, “You will ruin me.” He assured her be Would not.
