ANOTHER VICTORY. The Athletics Defeated by the Home ‘Team —Other Games—Base-Ball Notes. Despite the kicking of the Athletics an4.a num- ber of costly errors the home club managed to Pullout a score ahead of the visitors yesterday afternoon after a very exciting and interesting contest. Madigan umptred, and to nis credit be It Said, that whive one or two of his decisions were a little Shaky, his backbone was stiff, and he was not to be bulldozed. With a couple of exceptions, however, he showed most excellent Judgment in calling Dalls and strikes and in his base decisions, ad gives promise of a first-class umpire. The ‘home team batted better than the Athletics, and made the same number of errors, but their bits happened to come in the same inning, and they managed to keep a lead on the kickers by means of sharp flelding. Twice were men on third and Teen cana ok ae Suances in caught them napping. Then again, Ww! Larkin on third and one man out, Welch cracked along fiy to Dally. As soon ashe hagcaught it Larkin started home, but Daily's beautiful throw to Mack spoiled’ a run and made a splenaia double ay. Shoch seemed to be both Ted by the sticky” soll at short-stop, made two fumbies that were ia. Wile mot did some pretty work in left, catching three long hits and throwing in to the Bases like a rifle Suot. Daily ied in the home batting, knocking 1p two runs by a fine three-bagger in the fifth and Winning the game im the “lucky seventh” by a lone hich drive over the fence. O'Day sui everybody by a two-base bit in the ninth, and he Piched & very good game as well, striking out Seven men and holding the visitors down to five hits. ‘The home team found Weyhing’s curves for eight safe hits. Lyons made a four-bagger for the Athieties, but’ fortunately for Washington the buses were empty. OTHER GAMES YESTERDAY.
