Spalding, a weil-known and highly respected citizen of Washington, died at an early hour this morning at his residence, No. 1120 Con- hecticut avenue northwest, in the sixty-ffth year of his age. Mr. Spalding was a native of this city and learned the house-painting business with his father, the late W. R. Spalding. Soon after reac! ing hts majority he went into business on his own account, and for several years wes a member of the well-known firm of Parker & Spalding, located on Pennsylvania avenue, above 17h street, and Subsequently on the Avenue, between 12th and sich streets. Before the war he was a prominent member of the Washington Light Iniantry and also active In the old & member of the Lunteer fire department as nion Fire Co.
