A SUBURB OF CHICAGO ACCIDENTALLY LEFT WITHOUT ANY GOVERNMENT. ‘The discovery is made by some one connected with the Chicago law department that by reason of a decision rendered by Judge Garnett, Saturday, the suburban city of Hyde Park is now entirely without government of any kind. No policeman has apy power to make an arrest, no officer can issue a Warrant, no writs can be s-rv.d, and money cannot be paid out.or received. The way this state of affairs came about was this: Hyde Park voted to be annexed to Chicago at the recent elec- ton by & sinali majority. Some of the town office- holders were indisposed to give up thetr places, and, helped by many who had opposed annexation at the pol.s, they have been Mghting the project in the courts ever Since. They got out one lujun Uo restraining the county board from deciart; Hyde Park annexed to Chicago and another re- straining the city government of Chicago from tak- lag possession of Hyde Park. | Judge Garrett dis: ved the injunction against the county bourd Saturday, and the board proceeded to deciare tue annexation. That put an end to all local authority in Hyde Park. But the injuactiou against the eity ‘of Ciueago still stands, and consequenily its police power dues not extend over tue suburb.
